First semester at Brock: A student perspective

Students at Brock

As I was sharing my experiences at Brock University with a prospective student and her family at the Ontario Universities’ Fair, I was filled with a sense of pride for my university that I hadn’t experienced before. This sense of pride wasn’t new; it was within me since my first day at Brock. It was merely the opportunity to share my experiences at this event that made me realize how many great things I had to say about my university. In retrospect, I have absolutely no doubt in my decision to attend Brock for my undergraduate studies.

This feeling wasn’t exclusive to me. It was mutual among all of my friends and undoubtedly the more than 300 faculty members, staff members and students who volunteered time from their busy schedules to promote our university at the Ontario Universities’ Fair.

The pride didn’t stop there. The success at this year’s Brock University Fall Preview Day further demonstrated the progress that our university has made. The dedicated and integrated work of the recruitment team, the marketing and communications team and the alumni association attracted a significantly higher turnout than last year, which included attendees from all across Ontario. Every Brock faculty and department was well represented by the hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers who filled the Ian D. Beddis Gymnasium with school colours on the Sunday afternoon.

During my three years at Brock University, I have already seen changes that have truly introduced a bold new atmosphere. The opening of the Cairns Family Health and Bioscience Research Complex, the establishment of the Goodman School of Business and the recent progress made in building a new home for the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts are all monumental changes – and in just three years. I must say that I am excited to see what new changes await Brock in the future.
