Student groups get in the Valentine’s spirit

The spirit of Valentine’s Day in the air at Brock today, and several student groups are using the occasion to raise money for their causes.

The Child and Youth Studies Society is among the student groups with Valentine’s displays in the Mackenzie Chown A hallway. The display is to inform people about this month’s fundraising effort, which is Youth Pride Niagara, said Carly Eastwood, a third-year Concurrent Education student.

Each month, the society supports a local charity. Last month, its members collected clothing for Gillian’s Place.

The Faculty of Education group heading to Peru for Solidarity Experiences Abroad sold out of roses this week. The group is heading to Lima from May 3 to 16 to work in schools there.

The trip is one of four this year through the Solidarity Experience Abroad program, organized by the Faith and Life Centre. The others are a Sport Management trip to Peru (Feb. 16 to 26), a Nursing trip to Ecuador (June 16 to 29) and a trip to Brazil from July 3 to 19.

Community Health Sciences students are raising money in Mackenzie Chown A for the Heart Institute at Brock today. The Brain Injury Association of Niagara is selling flowers.
