One of Canada’s leading experts on health care policy will give a public talk at Brock next week on the cost drivers of health care.
Gregory P. Marchildon, Canada Research Chair in Public Policy and Economic History at the University of Regina, will deliver a lecture entitled “Cost Drivers in Health Care: What is Really Going On?” The talk will be Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. in room 600 of the Plaza Building.

Marchildon is the author of Health Systems in Transition: Canada, a book that provides an objective description and analysis of the public, private and mixed components that make up health care in Canada today. It was co-published in 2006 by the World Health Organization (WHO) on behalf on the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies and the University of Toronto Press.
Marchildon is a former Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs in the Saskatchewan government, as well as former Cabinet Secretary and Deputy Minister to the Premier. In 2001, he became the executive director of the Commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada (the Romanow Commission), a federal royal commission examining the future of public healthcare in Canada. He was the lead drafter of the Commission’s final report Building on Values: The Future of Health Care in Canada released in November 2002.
Marchildon has acted as a health system consultant for various organizations and governments from the WHO to the government of Nunavut. He is also the University of Regina’s site director for the Western Regional Training Centre for Health Services Research funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
