Dennis Hull to speak at Brock Days

Dennis Hull

Professional hockey legend and Brock history graduate Dennis Hull (BA ’81) will lead this year’s Brock Days Alumni Weekend as keynote speaker.

A 14-year veteran of the National Hockey League, Hull spent 13 seasons with the Chicago Black Hawks and one with the Detroit Red Wings. He played in more than 1,000 games during his NHL career and was known for his powerful shot on net, which many qualified observers, including rival goaltenders, say equalled or surpassed that of his brother, Bobby.

Dennis HullHull also played for Canada in the celebrated 1972 Summit Series when Canada beat the powerful Soviet Union team.

Hull brings to the speaker’s podium a wealth of anecdotes and stories from his many experiences. His understated after-dinner speaking style is fast becoming a trademark, and he has quickly become a sought-after head-table guest.

Hull will speak on Saturday, Sept. 17, kicking off Brock Days Alumni Weekend’s new mini-conference format. After attending an Alumni Pub Night at the Mansion House on Friday night, Alumni Weekend participants can hear Hull on Saturday from 9:45 to 11 a.m.

Following Hull’s presentation, participants can choose two of several interest and professional development breakout sessions on topics like social media, planning for retirement, naturopathy, preparing business presentations and taking care of a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease. Alumni can also tour the Canada Hair Cloth Building, future home of the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts in downtown St. Catharines; participate in a virtual tour of the Cairns Family Health and Bioscience Research Complex; or attend the inaugural Alumni Learners and Leaders presentations where Brock grads will share their innovative ideas or personal pursuits in 20 minutes or less.

Other highlights of Brock Days Alumni Weekend include the Cameo Club reception where alumni who graduated more than 25 years ago will receive a commemorative membership pin; Fine Food, Fine Wine, Fine Art that features Niagara’s finest chefs and award-winning wineries; and multiple Faculty, student club and residence reunions, including:
