Brock is hosting an international conference this week about the role of language in the shaping of new audiences in the French Renaissance.

“Le choix de la langue dans la construction des publics à la Renaissance en France”/“The Choice of Language in the Construction of Publics in the French Renaissance” is organized in partnership with the University of Lyon 2. It starts today and ends on June 25.

The conference begins with a reception at 5 p.m. this afternoon at Alphie’s Bistro. François Paré from the University of Waterloo is delivering the conference keynote.

The conference continues June 24 and 25 in the Sankey Chamber, when 15 papers will focus on linguistic strategies involved in the shaping of audiences, and the translation in the Renaissance. Mawy Bouchard (University of Ottawa) and Philip Ford (Clare College, Cambridge) are the plenary speakers.
