A Brock alumna will attempt to swim across Lake Ontario this summer to raise money for a charity that works to restore and maintain the ability to swim, drink and fish in the lake.

Melanie Price (BAcc ’96) will swim from Port Dalhousie to Oakville Aug. 11 and 12. Funds raised will go to Lake Ontario Waterkeeper, a charity that helps enforce environmental laws and educate people about water quality challenges.

Price began swimming at Brock as a student in the 1990s, working under coach Herb DeBray. In 1995, she was introduced to open-water racing during a training camp in the Florida Ocean Mile.

Lake Ontario Waterkeeper is part of the internationally-recognized Waterkeeper Alliance, which identifies threats to water quality and natural habitat.

Charitable donations to Lake Ontario Waterkeeper can be made through Price’s giving page.

More information is available through Price’s blog.
