Business students shine at international competition

Ten Brock Business students competed at an international conference against 238 schools this month.

The students traveled to Orlando, Fla. from April 12 to 17 to compete in the 50th annual Collegiate DECA International Career Development Conference. The four-day event involved business simulations and case studies.

The Brock team was comprised of Mihika Chag, Nick Chrzan, Erin Gurr, Mike Holmes, Shehar Khan, Max Marchuk, Aanchal Narula, Jaminy Ulaganathan, Mike Weston and Jeremy Wolfe.

Students competed in a preliminary round, where the highest scoring individuals moved onto a final round of competition.

The following came home with medals:

Nick Chrzan and Shehar Khan – Top 10 finalist for International Marketing; third place team overall
Erin Gurr – Top five Written Exam score, and Top 10 finalist for Fashion Merchandising Marketing; second place overall
Mike Holmes – Top 10 finalist in Marketing Management
Max Marchuk – Top 10 finalist in Financial Services
Aanchal Narula – Top five Written Exam score, and top 10 finalist for Hospitality Marketing
Jaminy Ulaganathan – Top 10 finalist in Travel and Tourism Marketing
Mike Weston – Top five Oral Presentation score, and top 10 finalist in Financial Services

Brock was one of three universities comprising Team Ontario. This year represents the highest medal total in the four years that Brock has been at the competition.

“The Collegiate DECA ICDC was an incredible experience for all participants,” said Chrzan, Brock’s chapter president. “We brought with us an incredible team that performed exceptionally well, while also expanding their networks with the best and brightest students from across North America.”
