Mentoring and collaboration will be the subject of a colloquium hosted at Brock tomorrow.
Studies in Comparative Literatures and Arts (SCLA) is hosting “From Mentoring to Collaboration and Beyond: Studies in Comparative Literatures and Arts” from 1 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 11 at Pond Inlet.
It’s the second year of the colloquium hosted by SCLA, which is part of the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures. The keynote addresses will be:
- Mario Valdés, a professor emeritus of Comparative Literature and Spanish at the University of Toronto, will present “Interdisciplinary Collaboration and the Future of the Humanities”
- Linda Hutcheon, one of the best known scholars in humanities today, and Michael Hutcheon, professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. The Hutcheons will present “Creativity and the Aging Artist: Guiseppe Verdi Gets the Last Laugh.”
It’s the fifth year for the MA program in Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures. Some of the program’s graduates are coming back to participate in the colloquium, said Cristina Santos, associate professor and director of MA Studies in Comparative Literatures and
Arts.
Among them is Jonathan Allan, a PhD in Comparative Literature at the University of Toronto; Janice Zehentbauer, a PhD in English at the University of Western Ontario, and recent graduate Maja Srndick.
The colloquium will appeal to anyone interested in interdisciplinary studies, Santos said.
