R. Angus Smith presented an invited lecture at the National Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa on Nov. 16. His lecture was entitled “The Humble Dead: Mortuary Ritual in the Mycenaean Hinterland.”

The talk was sponsored by the Embassy of Greece, the Canadian Institute in Greece — Friends of CIG in Ottawa, the American Institute of Archaeology in Canada, the Canadian Institute for Mediterranean Studies, and the Parnassos Hellenic Cultural Society of Ottawa. The more than 200 guests included the Greek Ambassador, Eleftherios Anghelopoulos, who made remarks after the talk, as well as Pana Merchant, a senator from Saskatchewan. Several alumni and former students of Smith’s were also in the audience.
