Jacqueline Stevenson and Maria Le

Two Community Health Sciences students have placed in the top five in a competition that challenged them to find innovative solutions to current problems in the health care system.

Jacqueline Stevenson and Maria Le placed fifth in the recent AFGA HealthCare Innovation Challenge, which saw more than 500 competitors in about 70 teams from across Ontario. The students answered the following question:

“What is a potential solution to a current challenge associated with universal access, privacy, and ease of use pertaining to disease diagnosis, medical treatment, and overall health care management?”

The competition was open to all majors. Stevenson completed a Biology degree in 2007 and is in her final year of a second degree in public health. Le is also in her final year of public health.

Stevenson and Le focused on cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of death and disability in Canada. Their team proposed a “Home CoSyCAD (Home Communication System for those with Coronary Artery Disease).”
