Daylight savings ends Sunday, so this weekend, remember to turn your clocks back.

St. Catharines Fire Chief Mark Mehlenbacher also recommends you check the batteries in your smoke alarm.

“Once a year, old batteries should be replaced,” Mehlenbacher said in a City of St. Catharines media release this week. “When you change your clocks this weekend, take the time to install new batteries in all smoke alarms.”

It is the law to have working smoke alarms on every storey of a home and outside all sleeping areas. For added protection, smoke alarms inside all bedrooms are recommended.
