Galen Weston, executive chairman of Loblaw Companies Ltd., will be named the Faculty of Business’s 2010 Distinguished Leader on Oct. 13.

Weston has been with Loblaw Companies for 11 years. Under his leadership, the company has undertaken a renewal plan to ensure long-term growth and stability. He has also overseen improvements in fresh foods, the strengthening and growth of President’s Choice and No Name brands and the emergence of Joe Fresh Style as one of the company’s top fashion brands.

The Distinguished Leader Lecture Series was established by the Faculty of Business to honour leaders from the business community. It also gives students have a chance to hear the leaders speak in an intimate classroom setting and at a formal lecture presentation.

“We are honoured to name Mr. Weston as this year’s Distinguished Leader,” said Philip Kitchen, Dean, Faculty of Business. “His value-based approach to business provides an excellent learning tool for our students and sets a positive example for responsible corporate culture. We are thrilled to have this opportunity for both our students and the Faculty of Business as a whole.”

Weston will meet with a small group of Faculty of Business student leaders and will also address the larger business student population.
