David Siegel, professor of Political Science, is quoted in two local stories about the Oct. 25 municipal election. “Get the vote out” appeared in the St. Catharines Standard on Sept. 21. Elections at all levels of government in Canada are suffering from an acute lack of voters, Siegel said, but local elections always have the lowest voter turnout.
“A taxing issue to contemplate” appeared in the Niagara Falls Review on Sept. 25. Freezing taxes sounds good in an election platform, Siegel says, but it creates problems afterward. “When people haven’t served in office, they always think they can cut taxes,” he said.
