A popular Brock hockey player who died suddenly in April will be remembered in a memorial hockey game on Friday.

Vince Scott will be the namesake of the Vince Scott Memorial Game, which will happen at 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 17 when the Badgers host the Laurier Golden Hawks. The Badgers will honour their former teammate by retiring his number 24 sweater in a ceremony just before the game. They will also name the leading scorer trophy after him.

The Mississauga native was 23 when he was killed in a car crash in Thorold on April 28. He was an honour student and leading scorer of the Badgers hockey team that season.

Scott was a second-year Business Administration student who transferred to Brock from the University of Prince Edward Island. He was selected Most Valuable Player by his team in 2009/10, and participated in community initiatives like Brock’s “Little Badgers on Blades” hockey school.

Brock coach Murray Nystrom said at the time that Scott had “an engaging personality.

“Our conversations would start with hockey but seemed to evolve into a discussion of our families,” he said. “I will always remember his wit and welcoming smile.”

The Vince Scott Memorial Game will happen during the 2010 Brock Badgers Steel Blade Tournament, which showcases some of the best in Ontario University Athletics. Division rival University of Guelph will also play in the tournament, which is sponsored by RBC Dominion Securities and RBC Asset Management.

All games are played at the Seymour-Hannah Centre. Tickets are $10 per game, or $5 for students and youth. Children under 10 are admitted for free.
