This September, Brock will welcome more than 17,000 new and returning students to campus for the beginning of the 2010-11 school year.

Throughout O-Week, taking place Monday, Sept. 6 to Sunday, Sept. 12, there will be plenty of opportunities for students to soak up the Brock experience, both on and off campus.

O-Week is “definitely a Brock tradition,” said Vince Wilson, manager of student conduct with the Student Development Centre.

“It’s a flagship event to welcome students to Brock University.”

The following are just some of the events planned for 2010 O-Week at Brock:

  • Residence move-in blitz (Monday, Sept. 6, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.): Six hours, 2,400 students and their families, and more than 100 volunteers. In its traditional one-day residence move-in blitz, Brock will welcome thousands of students to its six residence complexes.
  • Live Burn (Monday, Sept. 6, 8 to 8:30 p.m. D parking lot): Controlled “live burn” of mock rooms designed and furnished to resemble a typical student’s room. The demo provides students with a real-time illustration of how quickly fire can spread.
  • Vendor and Club Fair (Tuesday, Sept. 7 and Wednesday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in front of Schmon Tower): Two days of activities, live music and giveaways featuring student clubs, local businesses and services available at Brock and in St. Catharines.
  • Hush-Hush party: (Tuesday Sept. 7, 7 p.m., Weather Station Field): The newest addition to the O-Week line up. Interactive games, celebrity guest appearances, a New Years trip giveaway and a dance party so silent you could hear a pin drop. Come out to hear what everyone is whispering about.
  • Academic Orientation (Wednesday, Sept. 8, various sessions, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.): A chance for students to meet professors and classmates in their faculties and majors. (For more information, click here.)
