DIY Diary

Hi savvy savers! My name is Dayna and I am a summer student at the Student Awards and Financial Aid office. Every Monday I will be posting fun projects for you to try at home so that you can save money, and make the things you don’t use, new! (I’m posting today to make up for the long weekend!)

This is the first DIY project that I found; it is pretty simple and inexpensive to make! This project will make it easier for you to stay organized by keeping track of what you need to do each day of the week. We’ve all used calendars and whiteboards before, but wouldn’t it be fun to put the two together? Let’s get started:

Today we are going to be making a weekly DIY calendar!

Materials that you will need:

1. Multi-frame picture frame

*These can be purchased at the dollar store for $3 or less! Or you can buy individual frames and glue them together in a pattern that you’d like!

2. A background image or color

*You can use scrapbook paper, construction paper, card stock, paint chips, gift wrap, etc. (anything goes as long as you like it :))

3. Dry Erase Marker!

*Again, these can be purchased at the dollar store!

4. A plan/schedule

*No calendar is complete without a list of to-do’s or a schedule to fill it!

Procedure:

To make this, you can start by taking out the “default picture” from each picture frame. Now it is time to measure each frame, so that you can cut out a background color or image that will fit within the frame. There is no tape or glue needed; you simply place your background in the frame and close it up!

Now you can start to label your frames with the different days of the week and your schedule!

Your weekly DIY calendar is complete! 🙂

Cost Analysis:

The total cost for this project is about $10 or less, depending on which items you need to buy!

Store bought whiteboard calendars can range anywhere from $18.00 to $80.00 depending on the brand and store. Also, they are boring! By making your own, you are able to change the color of your background, colour and font, and you can keep making these changes. If you find yourself getting tired of the colours you chose for your background, swap them out with some new ones to make your calendar fresh!

Total Savings: $8-$70

Time: 10-15 minutes

Effort Required: 2/4
