FAQs – Transition of Campus Store operations

Brock University is entering into an agreement with Follett Canada to assume operation of the Campus Store on May 26, 2025. In addition to the FAQs below, details of the transition can be found here.

Why are we transitioning operations of the Campus Store to a third-party?

Brock’s Campus Store has faced significant external pressures over the past several years, resulting in sales today that are 40% of what they were 10 years ago. Despite concerted efforts to change that trend, we have reached a point where a self-operating model is no longer sustainable. Follett Higher Education is the largest campus store operator in North America, and they manage 48 campus stores across Canada, including 14 universities. This partnership will allow us to benefit from Follett’s buying power, as well as their digital resources and e-commerce solutions.

When does Follett assume operation of the Campus Store?

They will officially assume operation on May 26, 2025. From March to May the Follett team will work with ours to transition systems and processes.

Will the store be closing or will there be any significant changes that will affect my ability to shop at the Campus Store?

Operation of the physical and online stores will continue as normal during the transition. Customers may notice some changes being made to enhance the shopping experience – such as a website redesign and minor changes to the store’s layout – however we do not anticipate any significant disruption.

Are textbook prices going to increase?

We are committed to providing students with course materials that are affordable and accessible. This includes offering used textbooks and textbook rentals, buy back and price match programs, and access to technologies and Open Educational Resources (OER) through a suite of academic tools.

I need to order courseware for my spring/summer course – what’s the process?

For the time being, processes for adopting course materials will remain the same. Follett will be working with store staff over the coming weeks to transition over to their processes and systems, and all changes to the adoptions process will be communicated directly to faculty.

Whom do I contact if I have questions?

Malcolm Dales will be stepping in as Interim Director of the Campus Store and Parking Services during the Follett transition. Malcolm can address questions related to the transition while inquiries about products, special orders and course materials can be directed to [email protected].
