This interdisciplinary program is offered as a Combined Major by the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures. Courses are taught in English and cover the literatures and cultures of Western Europe, as well as Romance Linguistics. French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish texts are read in translation and assignments are completed in English. Given that knowledge of a second language is essential for an appreciation of the literatures and cultures under study, students in this program will be required to complete one first-year language credit.

The requirements for graduation with a BA (Honours) are a minimum 70 percent major average and a minimum 60 percent non-major average. The requirements for a BA with Major are a minimum 60 percent major average and a minimum 60 percent overall average.

This degree fits into the tradition of Comparative Literature programs and would form an excellent preparation for the MA in Studies in Comparative Literatures and Arts.
