Physical Education and Kinesiology hosts conference

The Department of Physical Education and Kinesiology hosted the eighth annual Ontario Biomechanics Conference (OBC) in Barrie on March 11 and 12.

The OBC is a student-based conference covering such topics as ergonomics and human factors, tissue mechanics, gait and posture, and biological signals.

There were 150 participants at the conference, which was organized by professors Craig Tokuno and David Gabriel. There were also numerous corporate sponsors.

The keynote, “Computational Modeling of the Human Shoulder,” was given by Richard Hughes from the Department of Orthopedics at the University of Michigan.

Classics

Fanny Dolansky was the invited keynote speaker on February 12 for McMaster University’s Fifth Annual Undergraduate Classics Conference at which she presented a paper titled “Religion and the Roman Family: Three Festivals and Their Importance for Understanding Roman Domestic Life.” On March 3, she was also an invited presenter at McMaster’s Department of Classics’ speaker series where she gave a paper titled “The Family Under Fire: A Study of the Rape Narratives of Ovid, Fasti 2.”

Philosophy

Christine Daigle was one of a few keynote speakers at the international conference “Existenzphilosophie und Ethik.” She presented the paper “Facing the Ethical Challenge: On Living Authentically” on March 12 at the Freie Universität Berlin.
