The Honours BSc in Medical Sciences prepares students for careers in health professions with a human life sciences perspective. This degree provides the foundation for postgraduate programs in medicine, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, chiropractic, physical therapy, occupational therapy and the allied health professions. Prepares students for careers in health as well as medical research and education.
Students planning to pursue post-graduate education in health or medical fields may consider taking credits in the following areas: Biochemistry, Calculus, English Language and Literature, Organic Chemistry, Philosophy, and Physics. Early during undergraduate studies, it is the students' responsibility to research prerequisites for advanced courses as well as admission requirements for any post-graduate programs to which they may plan to apply.
The Bachelor of Science (Pass) Medical Sciences program is available as a 15-credit degree only. Course selection for this program mirrors the first 3 years of the Medical Sciences degree in the Department of Health Sciences. The requirements to graduate with a BSc (Pass) Medical Sciences are a minimum 60 percent major average and a minimum 60 percent overall average upon completion of the 15 credits required for the degree.

To proceed to year 2 of the Medical Sciences (Honours) program, students must achieve a minimum 65 percent major average and a minimum 60 percent non-major average, with a minimum grade of 60 percent in HLSC 1F90 and one of STAT 1F92, 1P98, 1P99, and have successfully completed BIOL 1P91, 1P92, CHEM 1P91 and 1P92. To continue in the program after second year, students must achieve and maintain a minimum 70 percent major average and a minimum 60 percent non-major average or program removal may occur. Students removed from the Honours Degree will be moved to the Medical Sciences (Pass) degree. |

To be eligible for the Medical Sciences (Pass) program, and to remain in it, students must achieve a minimum 60 percent major average and a minimum 60 percent overall average, with a minimum grade of 60 percent in HLSC 1F90 and one of STAT (MATH) 1F92, 1P98, 1P99, and have successfully completed BIOL 1P91, 1P92, CHEM 1P91 and 1P92. |

The following HLSC courses are available for science elective credit: HLSC 2P00, 2P07, 2P09, 2P91, 2P92, 2P95, 2P96, 3P02, 3P07, 3P09, 3P19, 3P32, 3P51, 3P90, 3P91, 3P93, 3P97, 3P99, 3Q90, 3Q98, 4P02, 4P03, 4P07, 4P17, 4P19, 4P41, 4P50, 4P89, 4P93, 4P95, 4P96, 4P97, 4P98, 4P99. If HLSC 2P91, 2P92, 3P02, 3P09, 3P19, 3P90, 3P91 are taken to fulfill Medical Sciences program requirements, they cannot also be used as science electives. Medical Sciences majors cannot take KINE 1P90 in fulfilment of their degree requirements. |

In 20 credit degree programs a maximum of eight credits may be numbered 1(alpha)00 to 1(alpha)99; at least three credits must be numbered 2(alpha)90 or above; at least three credits must be numbered 3(alpha)90 or above; and the remaining credits must be numbered 2(alpha)00 or above. In some circumstances, in order to meet university degree and program requirements, more than 20 credits may be taken. In 15 credit degree programs a maximum of eight credits may be numbered 1(alpha)00 to 1(alpha)99; at least three credits must be numbered 2(alpha)90 or above; and the remaining credits must be numbered 2(alpha)00 or above. In some circumstances, in order to meet university degree and program requirements, more than 15 credits may be taken. |
