The requirement for graduation with a BSM (Honours) is a minimum 70 percent major average and a minimum 60 percent non-major average. The requirement for graduation with a BSM is a minimum 60 percent major average and a minimum 60 percent overall average. The program is designed to meet the needs of a rapidly expanding sport industry and incorporates experiential opportunities for students. Students will be prepared for sport management career opportunities that include marketing, public relations, promotions, communications, human resources and financial, facility and event management in a variety of public, commercial and non-profit organizations. It is the responsibility of Sport Management students to adhere to the Department of Sport Management's Ethical and Professional Code of Conduct which is in conjunction with Brock University's Code of Student Conduct. |

The application form for re-admission or for transfer into the BSM program (Declare or Change Majors) is available on the web at brocku.ca/webfm_send/1400 or at the Registrar's Office. The Declare or Change Majors form to transfer into the BSM must be completed and returned to the Office of the Registrar by May 1. The BSM is a limited enrolment program. Admission is not guaranteed by attainment of the minimum requirements outlined below. To be eligible for re-admission, or for transfer from another program, to the BSM program, a student must meet all of the following requirements: One of MATH 1F92, 1P20, one 4U MATH. Completion of SPMA 1P91 and 1P92 with a minimum 60 percent in each. Research Design and Evaluation Issues concerning the construction, administration and evaluation of data collection as well as the processing and analysis of data. Lectures, lab, 3 hours per week. Topics may include individual (motivation, job satisfaction) and interpersonal (communication, group dynamics) processes and management functions concerning employees in sport organizations. Sport Marketing Introduction to marketing concepts and strategies utilized in the sport industry. The Labour of Sport (also offered as LABR 2P90) Critical approach to sport as labour and professional athletes as workers. Topics may include the history of labour organizing and labour relations in professional sports, collective bargaining, strikes, and lockouts, and how axes of inequality, including race, gender, and sexuality, shape athletes' experiences of work. Public Relations and Communications for Sport Management Introduction to community relations and content development for internal/external communication, emphasizing electronic, digital and social media. Data Management and Technology for Sport Management Principles of big data management and database systems for managing sport information. Masculinities: A Feminist Perspective (also offered as CHYS 2P95 and WGST 2P95) Masculinities and the relation between multiple dimensions of social relations and inequalities across the lifespan: gender, race/ethnicity, class and sexual orientation. Introduction to Sport and the Law Sport-related legal issues and concepts. Sport Event Management Examination of traditional and niche events in sport at local, provincial, national and international levels. Quantitative Analysis for Sport Management Principles and practices of planning, designing, collecting, analyzing and interpreting statistical data. Placement will be a full-time (450hr) experience over the period of one term. To be run as appropriate to the needs/demands of particular experiential host organizations; not all experiential credit courses may require this course to be taken.
