Mental Health First Aid - Youth
2-Day Workshop

Please join us to become certified in Mental Health First Aid Youth. This two day course, a program of the Mental Health Commission of Canada, builds on participants’ existing skills to increase comfort and confidence in working with students and youth (ages 12-24) experiencing mental health problems, such as, depression, anxiety, deliberate self-harm and/or psychosis. Mental health problems often first develop during adolescence or early adulthood, with half of all mental health problems beginning by age 14, and 75 per cent beginning by age 24. Learn to spot the signs and symptoms of potential common mental health problems and how to respond with the five basic actions of mental health first aid. Participants will learn and practice the principles and basic skills of Mental Health First Aid Youth.

The following mental health problems are covered:
• Depression and bipolar disorder
• Anxiety and Trauma-related disorders
• Deliberate self-injury
• Eating disorders
• Psychosis
• Substance-related disorder

In addition, the mental health first aid for the following crisis situations is covered:
• Suicidal behaviour
• Overdoses Panic attacks
• Acute stress reactions to traumatic events
• Psychotic episodes

The dates available for this two-day training session are:
• Monday & Tuesday, June 4th and 5th, 2018

The sessions run from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on both days. It is mandatory for each participant to be present for the entire session in order to receive certification.
