Sweet Victory!

WOW!  What a Hockey Game!  Paul Kariya’s winning goal in the dying seconds of the third period brought the crowd to their feet for a twenty-minute ovation.  Kenji and Yumi were also quite happy to discover that, not only was Paul Kariya born and raised in Vancouver, but also he is also half Japanese.

At the game, our travelers only spent $20 dollars, including tax and tip, on food.  However, Yumi became so caught up in the spirit of the game that during the first period intermission she rushed off to the memorabilia store and purchased a replica Team Canada jersey for $200 plus 14.5% tax.  It was a small price to pay for the lifetime of memories that this jersey will bring them.

Following the game, Kenji and Yumi ran into their new friend Jenny outside the stadium.  Jenny was also at the game; however, she was rooting for team USA.  Jenny was noticeably saddened by her team’s defeat, so Kenji and Yumi invited her to join them for dinner.  Dinner and drinks cost our travelers a total of $145.76 after tax, but before tip.  Jenny’s bill only accounts for 20% of the total.  What percentage of the bill must belong to Kenji and Yumi?  How much did they pay?  Are you still keeping a running cost total of their trip?

Tomorrow is a big day.  Kenji and Yumi will be traveling to Whistler to watch the Women’s Alpine Skiing Downhill race.  It's time for bed.

Kenji:     Good night Jenny.  We hope you feel better tomorrow.

Jenny:    I already feel better.  I always feel good after spending a fun evening with friends.

Kenji and Yumi go to bed with a big smile on their faces this evening.  Not only did they enjoy a great day of entertainment, but they also helped a new friend feel better.
