The Department of Health Sciences offers four-year Honours degrees leading to a Bachelor of Child Health (BCH), a Bachelor of Public Health (BPH), a Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) with Co-op, a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Medical Sciences and a three-year BA (Pass) degree in Community Health. It also offers a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biomedical Sciences in collaboration with the Department of Biological Sciences.

The Bachelor of Child Health (Honours) is a collaborative effort between the Department of Health Sciences and the Department of Child and Youth Studies and is managed by the Department of Health Sciences. It is designed for students wishing to pursue a career as an educator or health professional working with children. The program provides students with a biological, psychological and sociological overview of the major determinants of health from birth through adolescence.

The Bachelor of Public Health (Honours) focuses on individual, community and population health and wellness emphasizing health promotion, health care management, health administration, health policy, and health programming and evaluation. Students are prepared for a career as a health care manager, promoter, administrator, researcher or policy-maker in a broad range of community and public health fields. Students can also pursue postgraduate studies in health-related disciplines.

The Bachelor of Public Health Co-op program is a limited enrolment program that combines academic studies with work terms after the second year of full-time studies. Students' academic training and work experiences prepare them for a wide variety of health advocacy, management and administration careers.

The BSc (Honours) in Medical Sciences prepares students for careers in health professions with a human life sciences perspective. This degree allows students to meet the requirements for postgraduate programs in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, optometry, chiropractic, physical therapy, occupational therapy and the allied health professions. It also prepares students for careers in health as well as medical research and education.

The BSc (Honours) in Biomedical Sciences is a collaborative effort between the Department of Health Sciences and the Department of Biological Sciences and is managed by the Department of Biological Sciences. It focuses on the molecular basis of human health. It draws on the expertise of faculty in Health Sciences in the medical aspects of human health and of faculty in Biological Sciences in theory, methods and applications of molecular biology. This program prepares students for careers in biomedical research and teaching.

The BA (Pass) in Community Health focuses on community health and wellness emphasizing health promotion and health assessment as well as program development and evaluation. This foundational degree provides a broad overview of societal trends and systems related to health issues.

Brock/Colleges Articulation Agreement

Co-ordinated between the Department of Health Sciences and a department at another post-secondary institution, articulation agreements offer students an opportunity to combine practical experience with theoretical knowledge. Upon successful completion of requirements at both institutions, students receive a BA (Pass) Community Health degree from Brock University and a diploma from the corresponding college.

Cardiovascular Technology

Students who have completed a Cardiovascular Technology diploma at Mohawk College with a minimum 70 percent average, may apply to Brock University to complete 10.0 prescribed credits (over two years) to earn a BA (Pass) Community Health degree. Applications are made via OUAC 105 Application to Community Health (BAH) and applicants must contact the Undergraduate Program Co-ordinator at Brock University to receive relevant program information.

Graduates of this articulation agreement program can gain employment not only as a Cardiovascular Technologist, but also as a health promoter, administrator or researcher in a variety of health-related fields.
