Ice Hockey

Kenji and Mathu take out the hockey program that they bought at the game.  They learn that Canada's National Men's Team was founded in 1963.  Also, they learn about Canada’s success in the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Games when they won the gold medal after defeating team USA 5 – 2.

Mathu:   I bet I know something that you don’t know.

Kenji:     What’s that?

Mathu:   Women’s hockey didn’t become a full Olympic sport until the Olympics in Nagano back in 1998.  I was there to see the game. Team Canada brought home a silver metal.

Kenji:     Of course I knew that. I myself was at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City when team Canada beat team USA in the gold medal game. It was incredible!

Mathu:   I really can’t wait to see this game. It’s going to be so exciting.

Kenji:     Say, what’s the difference between a slap shot and a wrist shot in hockey?

Mathu:   Well, a slap shot is mostly technique that comes from a weight transfer. It is faster than a wrist shot. The wrist shot is favourable among hockey players because it does not require any wind-up, it is easier to control, and it makes for a more accurate shot.

Kenji:     Look, the players are now taking shots on goal.  Let’s watch.
