Graduates from the Honours of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree are eligible to write the NCLEX-RN Examination and the College of Nurses of Ontario Jurisprudence Examination.

Admissions

The BScN is a limited enrolment program. Admission is not guaranteed by attainment of the minimum requirements.

Program Notes

0.	Academic Requirements
1.	To proceed to year 2, students must achieve a minimum 65 percent major average and a minimum 60 percent non-major average, with a minimum grade of 60 percent in all year 1 nursing courses (NUSC 1P01, 1P02, 1P03 and 1P30).
2.	To proceed into NUSC 4P55 & 4L85, students must achieve a minimum 70 percent major average and minimum 60 percent non-major average and have completed all program requirements.
3.	All clinical courses are graded Pass/Fail.
4.	Students have six years to complete degree requirements.
5.	Students who have not registered for one Nursing course in each calendar year will be removed from the program unless they have been granted a leave of absence by the Chair.
6.	A student who has not successfully completed a clinical course for one year or longer will be required to complete a reentry process consisting of online learning modules and in-person lab time prior to registering for the next clinical course. The student will be charged a fee. If the student is unsuccessful in the re-entry process, the student must repeat a previous clinical course at the discretion of the Chair.
7.	In 20 credit degree programs a maximum of eight credits may be numbered 1(alpha)00 to 1(alpha)99; at least three credits must be numbered 2(alpha)90 or above; at least three credits must be numbered 3(alpha)90 or above; and the remaining credits must be numbered 2(alpha)00 or above. 8.	To ensure the safety of all students and patients, students require clearance by Synergy Gateway Inc. for: Proof of immunizations Proof of Immunizations is due prior to registration for clinical courses and must be submitted to and cleared by Synergy Gateway Inc. by June 1 prior to entering Year 2, 3, and 4. Failure to comply with due date will result in student not being permitted to register in clinical courses for current academic year. Immunization screening required: COVID-19 (2 doses), Measles, Mumps, Rubella; Varicella (Chicken Pox); Hepatitis B; Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis; Tuberculosis. Annual TB Skin Testing is also required. Positive TB tests require chest X-rays every two years. Current CPR certification (BCLS Level C or HCP) and annual re-certification N-95 mask fit testing every two years. Both CPR and mask fit certificates must be valid throughout the clinical placement and submitted to Synergy Gateway Inc. All documentation must be submitted, and the Electronic Student Permit Checking (ESPC) appointment completed, by June 1 – for all students entering year 2, 3 and 4.
9.	Any student who fails the appointment must work with Synergy Gateway Inc. to receive clearance. Students may be charged for subsequent appointments.
10.	Students will not be permitted to register in a clinical course or be placed in a clinical group until clearance is received.
11.	Students must have registered in a clinical course 2 weeks prior to the start of term.
12.	It is the student's responsibility to monitor their Synergy Gateway Inc. profile.
13.	Police record check, with a vulnerable sector screening may be required by clinical agencies. It is the student's responsibility to ensure the process is complete - at their own expense. In some cases, the student may not be allowed to attend clinical if these requirements are not met. Students will be notified when this is required.
14.	Students are expected to attend all clinical shifts as scheduled by the Department of Nursing. Shifts may be scheduled during the days, evenings, and/or weekends. Students should expect to have up to 12-hour shifts during years 2 and 3 of the program. In year 4, students placed in precepted experiences may attend 8 or 12-hour shifts, days, afternoons or nights. Students are not permitted to attend clinical longer than 12 hours per shift. Students may anticipate attending clinical approximately 36 hours per week in their final semester, for a 12-week period.
15.	Students are responsible for arranging their own travel to and from clinical placement settings and for covering any cost incurred. Students who enroll in the Nursing Program are expected to travel to learning settings within the Niagara Region (including St. Catharines, Welland, Niagara Falls, Port Colborne, Fort Erie, etc.) and the surrounding area (including 4 Hamilton, Burlington, Haldimand/Norfolk, etc.).

Nursing Theory and Clinical Practicum: Experiencing Illness and Hospitalization

Introductory concepts in health, illness, and wellness. Theoretical application and integration of psycho-social-motor knowledge, skills and abilities related to nursing practice in caring for adult clients experiencing illness and hospitalization.

Theory, Lectures, 3 hours per week. Nursing Simulation Lab, 3 hours per week. Nursing Clinical Practicum, 9 hours per week.
