Fellowships, Scholarships, Bursaries, Awards and Financial Assistance
Various forms of financial support are available to graduate students. In addition to the scholarships and awards listed below, Brock University awards fellowships, scholarships, bursaries and graduate (teaching and research) assistantships to incoming and full-time returning students on the basis of academic merit. Students' offer letters include financial funding information that outlines, where appropriate, their particular graduate funding package. Graduate students are encouraged to apply for any of the awards and scholarships for which they are eligible. To be eligible to apply for internal and external awards, scholarships and bursaries, graduate students must be registered as a full-time student. A student who is withdrawn from the university or has a change of status will have their scholarship eligibility reviewed and adjustments to their financial support made.

Chancellors Chairs' Graduate Scholarship in Physics
Value: $1001
An annual award to a student who is entering or continuing in a graduate program in Physics who demonstrates academic excellence and financial need. The student must complete an Application for Internal Graduate Scholarships.

Danielle Anne Parks Memorial Scholarship
Value: $1869
An annual award to a graduate student in the Classics program whose research is in Greco-Roman culture and history. The student's research must require travel to the Mediterranean or to view a collection on Greco-Roman culture and history in Europe or a Mediterranean country. This scholarship may not be used for unstructured travel. The student must complete an Application for Internal Graduate Scholarships.

Dante F. Marinelli/Niagara Duty Free Shops Scholarship

An award made annually to either an undergraduate or a graduate student who is enrolled in a program in the Faculty of Business and who is a resident of the Niagara peninsula. The applicant must meet Ontario residency requirements and demonstrate financial need. The student must complete an Application for Internal Graduate Scholarships to receive the award annually throughout his or her Brock career, contingent on maintaining a minimum 75% average.

David C. Murray and Elizabeth Surtees Niagara Historical Society Post-Graduate Scholarship in the History of Niagara
Value: $1864
An annual award to a graduate student in the MA in History graduate program who is carrying out their major research paper on a Niagara local history subject, preferably focused on such topics as the political, economic, social, industrial, agricultural, maritime, or related history of the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake or former township of Niagara. Should no eligible student be researching within the narrowly defined geographic area described above, a major research paper on a topic as above within the Niagara Region will be considered. The recipient will donate a hard copy and electronic format of their paper, prior to their convocation ceremony, to the Niagara Historical Society. The student award recipient retains copyright to their major research paper while the Niagara Historical Society will have full, unrestricted and unimpeded reproduction rights to the document and may market it in pamphlet form or as part of an anthology.

Awarded to the most distinguished graduate for each graduate program. The award and a certificate will be awarded at Spring convocation.

Doris White Memorial Graduate Bursary

An annual bursary to a full-time graduate student(s) enrolled in a graduate program. Preference will be given to a graduate student pursuing study in Music. Edgar and Irmgard Penner Scholarship

Awarded annually to one or more international students, in the first or subsequent year of a graduate program, who has achieved high academic standing and does not receive financial support from his/her country. The student must complete an Application for Internal Graduate Scholarships.

Excellence in Research Award
Value: $1,500/student
An annual award to three graduate students who have displayed excellence in research. The recipient may be full-time, part-time, domestic or international. Each graduate program may nominate one student for each relevant award category. The successful recipients will receive acknowledgment at the time of his/her convocation.
No application is required.
Faculty of Education Fellowships
Value: $1,500
A maximum of three graduate fellowships are awarded each year to new and continuing full-time students in the Master of Education program who have achieved high academic standing. Prospective candidates for fellowships will be considered on application for admission to the Master of Education program. Continuing students will be considered after successful completion of their first year of study. In order to qualify, students must be registered as full-time students.
Faculty of Education Graduate Bursary
Value: $1,000
A number of graduate bursaries are awarded each year to continuing full-time students in the Master of Education program who are experiencing financial difficulties. Only one such bursary can be obtained during the student's Master of Education program. Application details and deadlines can be obtained from the Faculty of Education. Applicants must provide evidence of on-going participation in the program, a statement outlining financial need, and a reference letter from a full-time faculty member describing the student's academic progress.

Fidelis Kambilige Memorial Scholarship in Political Science
Value: $221
An annual award to a graduate student currently enrolled in the MA Political Science graduate program who demonstrates academic merit. Preference is given to a student from Ghana. If there is no eligible Ghanaian student, the scholarship is to be awarded to an international student.

G. Ronald Brown Graduate Award
Value: $598
An annual award to a full-time student in good standing in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science who has demonstrated financial need. Applicants must complete an Application for internal Graduate Scholarships. The award was established in 2002 in memory of Dean Ron Brown.

An annual award to an outstanding graduate student in Chemistry who has an excellent record in research, course work and demonstrating. Preference will be given to international students. Governor General's Gold Medal
The Governor General's Gold Medal is awarded at Spring convocation to a graduate student who achieves the highest academic standing in a graduate degree program. Graduates from both the Spring and the previous Fall convocation are eligible.

Green Shield Canada Graduate Fellowship in Health Sciences

An annual award to a full-time graduate student in the Applied Health Science program, who demonstrates outstanding academic merit. Applicants must complete an Application for Internal Graduate Scholarships.

Harrison-Thompson Bursary Trust
Value: $5,000 (one award for each listed faculty)
An annual award for one full-time student in each of the five faculties: Applied Health Sciences, Business, Humanities, Mathematics and Science, and Social Sciences. The recipient must meet Ontario residency requirements and demonstrate financial need. The student must complete the Harrison-Thompson Bursary Trust Application. The award is renewable based on academic excellence and demonstrated financial need.

International Society for Electrophysiology and Kinesiology (ISEK) John V. Basmajian Memorial Graduate Award
Value: $392
An annual award to a full-time domestic or international MA, MSc or PhD graduate student in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences. The student must demonstrate high academic merit and be conducting research related to electromographic kinesiology of skeletal muscle. This award is not applicable to research into cardiac muscle, cardiology, or cardiac rehabilitation. The student must complete an Application for Internal Graduate Scholarships and must submit the following documents.
1. A standard abstract formatted in accordance with the ISEK submission guidelines (contact Applied Health Science graduate program for Appendix 1)
2. A two-page (600 word) outline should explain the rationale for the work, purpose and/or hypothesis, research design, results, discussion that highlights the significance of the work and key references. Up to two figures may be included within the two-page limit.
3. A one-page (300 word) letter from the student's supervisor that explains the role and contribution(s) of the applicant to the research project.

President's Surgite Award

The award is intended to recognize those students who have been outstanding in one or more of the following areas: demonstrated exemplary leadership in a student club, organization association or team; did something exceptional that helped to advance Brock's academic reputation; made a significant contribution to student life at Brock; provided a valuable service to Brock or the broader community. The application forms for this award are available from the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office (ST402) brocku.ca/safa Fall Award application forms are accepted from September 1 - October 15 and the Winter application forms are accepted from January 1 - February 15. The MA Applied Linguistics (TESL) Scholarship

An annual award to a graduate student who has a minimum average of 80% in the MA Applied Linguistics (TESL) program, and who in the judgment of the MA Applied Linguistics (TESL) Program Committee, provides the most compelling arguments in a written paper (maximum 2 pages) explaining why they perceive themselves to have academic merit and thus a suitable candidate for the award. The Susan Tough Award

An annual award to a full-time graduate student entering the Master of Arts in Applied Disability Studies, Master of Applied Disability Studies or the Graduate Diploma in Applied Disability Studies whose area of study is persons with intellectual disabilities with challenging behaviours. The award will be given to a student who demonstrates academic achievement and financial need and meets Ontario residency requirements. This award will be made to a graduate student in the Centre for Applied Disability Studies to support attendance at a conference to present their research. Thompson-Harrison Graduate Scholarship
Value: $824
An annual award to an international student studying Physics at the graduate level who has achieved a high academic standing in-course and whose studies are not fully funded by his/her government. Should no physics international graduate student qualify, the scholarship will be awarded to a top chemistry graduate student, qualifying under the same conditions. In the event that no international student qualifies, the scholarship will be awarded, in the first instance, to a physics student who has attained a high academic standing on entry or in-course. Should no physics student qualify, the scholarship will be awarded to a chemistry student, qualifying under the same conditions. The student must complete an Application for Internal Graduate Scholarships.

W. D. Hatch Memorial Scholarship
Value: $1157
An annual award to an outstanding student during the first or second-year of a graduate program. The candidate must have a first-class academic standing and thesis research is concerned with, in the first instance, in the field of viticulture or oenology or, secondly, with the application of Biotechnology relating to agriculture. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and meet Ontario residency requirements. The student must complete an Application for Internal Graduate Scholarships.

Mackenzie King Scholarships Awards
Two classes of Mackenzie King Scholarship are available to graduates of Canadian universities in support of graduate study: The Open Scholarship is available to graduates of Canadian universities who pursue graduate study in any discipline, in Canada or elsewhere. The Travelling Scholarship is available to graduates of Canadian universities who pursue graduate study in the United States or the United Kingdom in the areas of international relations or industrial relations.
Applications for the Mackenzie King Scholarships must be received by the Faculty of Graduate Studies by February 1 to support study in the following academic year.

Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC)
The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) is a national funding organization that invests in Canada's capability in science and technology in the natural sciences and in engineering. NSERC offers a number of different Postgraduate Scholarship programs which provide financial support to high-calibre scholars who are engaged in a master’s or doctoral programs in the natural sciences or engineering.

Ontario Graduate Scholarships
The Province of Ontario offers scholarships (in conjunction with Brock University) to master's and doctoral students in or entering graduate programs. The scholarships are tenable at an Ontario university of the student's choice. The awards are tenable in all disciplines and the applicant must have high academic achievement and meet certain citizenship requirements.

Ontario Women's Health Scholars Award
Funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, a Scholar Awards Program in Women's Health has been established to ensure that Ontario attracts and retains pre-eminent women's health scholars. The community of women's health scholars fostered by this awards program will excel, according to internationally accepted standards of scientific excellence, in the creation of new knowledge about women's health and its translation into improved health for women, more effective health services and products for women, and a strengthened heath care system. Awards are offered at the master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral levels.

Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarship Awards
