Students are advised to contact the Student Development Centre early in the application process to exchange information about their needs and the services available. This exchange will in no way impact your acceptance at Brock. After being admitted to Brock, you must make an appointment with your case manager to provide appropriate documentation of your needs, preferably before the beginning of term. Your case manager will review your needs and assist in setting up the accommodations and support services you require.

General Information |

Don't feel you have to wait for a problem to arrive to visit the Student Health Services. A team of nurses and physicians provide comprehensive medical/clinical services as well as health education and counselling. We can help you with a medical problem, provide treatment or a referral, give allergy injections or update your immunization. We provide health education and counselling about many issues including contraception, pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, nutritional or weight concerns, stress or lifestyle issues. OHIP, UHIP or other health insurance is needed in order to be seen by a physician. All visits and treatments are strictly confidential. The health fee paid by all students at registration covers many value added services including the Health Education Program etc. If you have questions or require any additional information about a health issue or specific health concern, feel free to drop in. |

Required Medical Documentation |

It is the University's policy to accept medical certificates from qualified medical practitioners attesting to a student's inability to write a test, examination etc. due to an incapacitating medical condition at the time of the scheduled test, examination etc. The University may, at its discretion, request more detailed documentation in certain cases. Medical documentation must be written on the Student Health Services Medical Excuse Form or the physician's letterhead and must show the physician's address and telephone number. It must include the student's name, date the student was examined at Student Health Services or by the physician and must bear the physician's signature. The letter must include an indication of the severity of the illness. Please note that some faculties require their own Medical Excuse letter to be completed. The IELP has six levels of English proficiency, Preparatory and Levels 1 through 5. Placement is based on the International Proficiency Test(ITP). |

Special English Language Programs |
|
A 5 week Second Language Program is offered each summer with 20 hours of instruction and twice weekly workshops of varying topics with a focus on English usuage. Special English Language Programs (SELP) can be tailored to the needs of groups of 15 or more students from 3 weeks to one year duration. Programs with specific subject content such as ESL/IT, ESL/Teacher Upgrading, Business English, English/Tourism or any subject matter can be arranged to fit the needs of groups. |

Conditional Acceptance |
|
Applicants with the proper academic qualifications may be granted a Conditional Acceptance to an undergraduate program without the English proficiency level normally required for admission to Brock University. Students with a Conditional Acceptance must complete Level 5 of the Intensive English Language Program before proceeding into their degree program. |

Homestay Program |
|
ESL Services offers a Homestay program to international students studying at Brock University. Students will be placed with a friendly Canadian family which gives them further opportunities to practice their English skills and to experience Canadian lifestyle and culture. The homes are safe, secure, inspected and approved by the Orientation Coordinator. |

Activities |
|
Both the IELP and SELP include a host of activities intended to enrich the learning experience. Activities may include trips to Niagara Falls and Toronto, sporting events, movies, karaoke and socio-cultural events of local interest. The Activities Coordinator will also arrange Conversation Partners with interested students. This pairing of ESL students with Canadian students encourages our students to practice their speaking skills and broaden their connections with the community. |
