Various forms of financial support are available to graduate students. In addition to the scholarships and awards listed below, Brock awards fellowships, bursaries and teaching assistantships to incoming and full-time returning students on the basis of academic merit. A student who is withdrawn from the university or has a change of status will have their scholarship eligibility reviewed and possibly withdrawn.

Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) |
|
Ontario Student Assistance Program and Canada Student Loan Program. All students who are residents of Ontario, Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada and who satisfy the admission requirements of a Canadian university or an eligible post-secondary institution in Ontario may apply for a loan under this program. To receive a loan a student must establish financial need for assistance and enrol in an eligible institution in the year of the loan. An award under this program will be made to the extent of financial need subject to established maximums.

G Ronald Brown Graduate Award
Value: to be determined
An annual award to a full-time student in good standing, in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science who has demonstrated financial need. Established in 2002 in memory of Dean Ron Brown. Applicants must complete a bursary application, available from the Graduate Studies website: http://www.brocku.ca/gradstudies/forms/. The award will be made by the Brock University Senate Committee on Graduate Studies, based on the recommendation of the Dean 'or designate' of the Faculty of Mathematics and Science. The value of the award will be calculated as the interest earnings from the endowment contributed by the family and friends of Ron Brown and the faculty and staff of Brock University.
Distinguished Graduating Student Award
Value: $100.
Awarded to the most distinguished graduate for each graduate program. The prize and a certificate will be awarded at Spring convocation.
Excellence in Research Award
Value: $1,250
Awarded annually in May to two full-time graduate students at the Master's or Doctoral level who have demonstrated excellence in research. Students are eligible for the award if they are actively engaged in thesis research. Candidates for the award will be nominated by the graduate programs in March, and recipients will receive acknowledgment at the Spring convocation.
John Edds Prize in Master of Accountancy
Value: $400.00
An annual award to a student who has demonstrated academic excellence in the Master of Accountancy program. The candidate will be selected by the Faculty of Business.Donor: John Edds
Faculty of Education Fellowships
Value: $1,500
A maximum of three graduate fellowships are awarded each year to new and continuing full-time students in the Master of Education program who have achieved high academic standing. Prospective candidates for fellowships will be considered on application for admission to the Master of Education program. Continuing students will be considered after successful completion of their first year of study. In order to qualify, students must be registered as full-time students.
Faculty of Education Graduate Bursary
Value: $1,000
A number of graduate bursaries are awarded each year to continuing full-time students in the Master of Education program who are experiencing financial difficulties. Only one such bursary can be obtained during the student's MEd program. Application details and deadlines can be obtained from the Faculty of Education. Applicants must provide evidence of on-going participation in the program, a statement outlining financial need, and a reference letter from a full-time faculty member describing the student's academic progress.
The Gordon R. Finlay Scholarship

The David Goicoechea Award
Value: to be determinedAn annual award to a student who has graduated from the Brock undergraduate degreeprogram in Philosophy and is entering into the Brock Master's program in Philosophy. The recipient must meet OSAP residency requirements and demonstrate financial need. Richard L. Hearn Scholarship

An annual award to a full-time graduate student in the first or subsequent year of a graduate degree in Physics who has achieved high academic standing. Established in 1989 in memory of Dr. Richard L. Hearn, Brock University's first Chancellor.Donor: The family of R. L. Hearn.
The Thompson-Harrison Graduate Scholarship
Value: $1,250
The recipient will be an international student studying physics at the graduate level who has achieved a high academic standing in-course and whose studies are not fully funded by his/her government. Should no physics international graduate student qualify, the scholarship will be awarded to a top chemistry graduate student, qualifying under the same conditions. In the event that no international student qualifies, the scholarship will be awarded, in the first instance, to a physics student who has attained a high academic standing on entry or in-course. Should no physics student qualify, the scholarship will be awarded to a chemistry student, qualifying under the same conditions.Donor: Bernard Harrison

Niagara District Chartered Accountants Association Award in Master of Accountancy

President's Surgite Award
Value: to be determined, plus a Certificate of Recognition
The award is intended to recognize those students who have been outstanding in one or more of the following areas: the applicant must demonstrate exemplary leadership in a student club, organization, association or team; they must have done something exceptional that helped to advance Brock's academic reputation; they may have made a significant contribution to student life at Brock and/or provided a valuable service to Brock or the broader community. The application forms for this award are available from the Student Awards & Financial Aid Office (ST 402). Fall Award application forms are accepted from September 1-October 15 and the Winter Award application forms are accepted from January 1-February 15.
Dr. G.M.C. Sprung Memorial Award

The Governor General's Gold Medal
The Governor General's Gold Medal is awarded at Spring convocation to a graduate student who achieves the highest academic standing in a graduate degree program. Graduands from both the Spring and the previous Fall convocation are eligible. The medal will be awarded on the recommendation of the Senate Committee on Graduate Studies.
Jack Noble Book Prize
The book prize is awarded every year at both the Spring and Fall convocations to a Master of Education student who achieves the highest academic standing in the MEd program. The prize is awarded in the name of Jack Noble on the recommendation of the Faculty of Education.

Autism Scholars Award
With the support of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, a Scholar Awards Program in Autism has been established to ensure that Ontario attracts and retains pre-eminent scholars. The community of autism scholars fostered by this Awards Program will excel, according to internationally accepted standards of scientific excellence, in the creation of new knowledge concerning child autism, and its translation into improved health for children, more effective services and products for children with autism, and increase the province's capacity in diagnosis and assessment of autism and a strengthened treatment system.

Canada-U.S. Fulbright Awards Program
The award provides support for Canadian students to conduct research and/or pursue graduate study in the United States. The competition is field open, preference is given to research and study that contribute to a better knowledge and understanding of contemporary public policy issues relevant to Canada, the United States, and the relationship between the two countries.

Commonwealth Scholarship Plan
Awards Available to Students from Other Commonwealth Countries for Graduate Study in Canada
The Commonwealth Scholarship Plan provides opportunities for Commonwealth students to pursue advanced studies in other commonwealth countries. The scholarships are awarded to graduates of recognized universities for a period of up to two academic years and will cover the holder's travel, living and study expenses during the period of tenure. Commonwealth scholarships tenable at Canadian universities are open to commonwealth citizens other than residents of Canada. Citizens of commonwealth countries should make application in their own country for commonwealth scholarships tenable at Canadian universities.

Awards available to Canadians for Graduate Study in Commonwealth Countries
The Commonwealth Scholarships Plan is administered in Canada by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) on behalf of Foreign Affairs Canada. The scholarships are awarded to Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada who will pursue research in another country toward a Canadian graduate degree. Most awards include scholar's return travel from Canada to the awarding country, a monthly living allowance, tuition and compulsory academic fees and medical insurance. Various other allowances may be available, depending on the host country.

Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario Research Master's Studentship Awards
Value: $18,000 per annum for 2 years
The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario is continuing to offer a limited number of Master's Studentship awards to highly qualified candidates who have completed or are in the last year of a Baccalaureate degree. Candidates will undertake full-time training in cardiovascular/cerebrovascular research under an identified academic supervisor.Please note that graduates possessing a medical degree must apply to the national HSF Fellowship program. Candidates must not hold another major award concurrently.The awardee may not have held a prior faculty appointment. The Master's studentships are tenable at Ontario universities to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada studying in Ontario who have achieved a minimum of 80% on course work completed in the last two years of study. Applicants may already be enrolled in a Master's program. The duration of the award will then be adjusted to accurately reflect the remaining period of study.Awards will take effect only after the recipient has registered full-time in an eligible (i.e., relevant to cardiovascular/cerebrovascular research) Master's program. Mackenzie King Scholarships Awards
The Mackenzie King Open Scholarship is open to graduates of any Canadian university who engage in (commence or continue) postgraduate study in any field, in Canada or elsewhere. It's value has been $9,000 but is subject to change.The Mackenzie King Travelling Scholarship is open to graduates of any Canadian university who engage in (commence or continue) postgraduate study, in the United States or the United Kingdom, of international relations or industrial relations (including the international or industrial relations aspects of law, history, politics and economics). Four Travelling Scholarships of $10,000 have lately been awarded annually, but the number and value of the scholarships are subject to change. The awards will be based on high academic achievements (all A's or very nearly so), personal qualities and demonstrated aptitudes. Consideration will also be given to the applicant's proposed program of study.

Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC)
NSERC is a national funding organization that invests in Canada's capability in science and technology in the natural sciences and in engineering. NSERC offers Postgraduate Scholarships (PGS) which provide financial support to high-calibre scholars who are engaged in Master's or Doctoral programs in the natural sciences or engineering. Social Sciences of Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

Rhodes Scholarships Awards
These Scholarships are tenable at the University of Oxford, England. They are granted for two years with the possibility of a third year. A candidate must be a Canadian citizen or a person domiciled in Canada. The candidate must have been born between October 2, 1981 and October 1, 1987. The candidate must have received an undergraduate degree before taking up the scholarship, except for medical students. The qualities which will be considered in making the selection are: literary and scholastic attainment; fondness and success in outdoor sports, qualities of truthfulness, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship; exhibition of moral force of character and of instincts to lead and to take an interest in one's contemporaries. Qualities of both character and intellect are the most important requirements for a Rhodes Scholarship. Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarship Awards
Value: $35,000 per annum for 3 years
All students who are a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant pursuing full-time doctoral studies in Canada and exceptionally to Canadians who are pursuing full-time doctoral studies at a foreign institution. To be eligible for consideration by the Foundation, candidates must be applying into the first year of a doctoral program, or must be registered in the first or second year of such a program. Candidates must be enrolled in or must have completed a degree program at the nominating institution, or must be enrolled in or applying to a doctoral program there.
