LEAD LIKE A GIRL

August 9 to 11, 2022

LEAD LIKE A GIRL was a 3-day experience for girls ages 11-13 built around leadership, life skills and athletics.

Leadership is a skill and like any skill it can be taught. Girls 11-13 years old were eligible for this unique learning experience. Participants learned from an Olympic Coach about the importance of leadership and how to improve as a leader. They were able to witness emerging leaders in action at the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games and participated in fun skill training exercises. Participants learned valuable life skills and had a once in a lifetime chance to watch and engage with the Canada Summer Games.

EXPERIENCE: LEAD LIKE A GIRL

“LEAD LIKE A GIRL: Canada Summer Games Edition” was a unique program for 2022 offered by the Centre for Sport Capacity as part of its Sport Leadership Academy. This 3-day leadership development program was for girls aged 11-13 years who were involved in any level of sport. The program provides an opportunity for girls to “learn to lead” and develop valuable leadership and life skills, all within the context of sport.

Continuation of LEAD LIKE A GIRL

2023 LEAD LIKE A GIRL – Women in Sport Leadership Panel

Held: February 10th, 2023

The Centre for Sport Capacity, in collaboration with the Niagara IceDogs, recently organized a continuation of the LEAD LIKE A GIRL initiative. As part of this initiative, a Women in Sport Leadership speaker series was held on February 10th at the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts. The event featured engaging discussions, a Q&A session, a pizza dinner, and a networking social time.

The same night, the PWHPA game was underway at the Meridian Centre, and high school girls were invited to attend a panel session before the game took place. The panel discussion provided an excellent opportunity for the attendees to interact with panelists from various backgrounds in the sport industry, including marketing and events, administration, training and performance, sport medicine, and media and journalism. The session aimed to inspire girls and help them discover potential roles in the sports industry while also enabling them to establish connections that can shape their future after high school.
