SJRI Masters Fellowship Program

SJRI offers a limited number of Masters Fellowships to outstanding students who are pursuing MA research in a transdisciplinary field of social justice.  The purpose of the SJRI Masters Fellowship Program is to encourage student involvement in SJRI activities throughout the year and to financially support graduate research that is social justice oriented.

Value: $2000 from SJRI /$2000 from Graduate Studies

The Faculty of Graduate Studies may match SJRI Masters Fellowship funding of $2000 for a total of $4,000 contingent on budget approval of the matching funds program. If available, the matching funds would be offered in the first and second term of the student’s program of study. If matching funds are unavailable, then successful applicants will receive the $2000 SJRI component of the fellowship only in the third term.

Any student applying for full-time study in an MA program at Brock University whose anticipated research relates closely to the transdisciplinary field of social justice.

Application Process

Application packages must be submitted by March 1st and should include:

  1. a completed application form (see attachment below);
  2. an up-to-date cv/resume;
  3. a copy of the academic transcripts included in the applicant’s MA program application (scanned copies are acceptable);
  4. a copy of the statement of interest included in the applicant’s MA program application.

Notification of Outcome & Acceptance of Fellowship

An SJRI sub-committee will rank the applications independently of graduate programs’ admissions processes. Fellowships will be offered to the highest ranked applicants among those who have been recommended for admission to graduate programs. Successful applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application and the value of the fellowship in the funding package section of their offer of admission. Acceptance of an offer of admission assumes acceptance of the Fellowship, unless the Fellowship is declined in writing at the time the offer of admission is accepted.
