  • Assessment focuses readiness activities

The assessment phase of the SIS Modernization project was completed on December 14, 2018.

During the twenty functional assessment sessions that took place from October to December, over 100 stakeholders contributed data and personal insight. These activities served to enhance our knowledge and understanding of current student information practices.

Our thanks to everyone who contributed their time, knowledge and thought to this process.

A number of near-term student success and retention-related efficiencies and improvements have been identified. The main areas of opportunity were the digitization of forms, process harmonization and better communications.

Thus, modernization efforts will continue in the form of fostering collaboration across units, supporting professional development and championing high impact practices.

As a consequence of the recent budget constraints, the implementation of a new student information platform has been delayed until the 2020/21 fiscal year and 2019/20 will be utilized to enhance institutional readiness. The focus of the project now shifts to working with stakeholders on change management and implementing opportunities for improvements within current resources.

Check back for information about modernization efforts and please contact us with any questions you have through our Project website Contact Us form.

  • New student information system assessment continues with Workday Student presentations

Members of the Brock community are invited to attend a series of student information system (SIS) presentations.

The University’s current SIS is made up of more than a dozen individual applications and databases. A new unified platform will include student-centric functions such as admission progress, course registration, as well as streamlined access to program information, degree status and employee assistance.

Beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, representatives from Workday Student will lead five presentations in the boardroom on the 13th floor of Schmon Tower.

Presentations are grouped by community members’ roles, however, students, staff and faculty are welcome to register for any of them:

    • 9 to 10 a.m. — recruitment, admissions and records employees
    • 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. — academic advisors
    • 1 to 2 p.m. — program coordinators, chairs and deans
    • 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. — faculty members
    • 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. — students

As part of the SIS modernization project’s assessment phase, the University will be evaluating Workday Student against its current and future technology needs.

The assessment phase also includes a survey that will help identify existing challenges of the University’s current SIS and suggest opportunities for the new system.

A live stream of the presentations was planned, but will not be available. Please register, if you are able to do attend.

  • Student Information System Project Commences Assessment Phase

Brock University continues its progress toward a new student information system (SIS) with a series of workshops in October and November.  Starting October 15th, Deloitte Canada will lead workshops with university staff and faculty.  These workshops will help the Brock community:

    • Define the capabilities that Brock will require from a modern student information system
    • Assess these capabilities against the Workday Student functionality
    • Provide a basis of artifacts required for Brock to make an informed decision
    • Create a model to define and track return on investment for any future Workday Student implementation

  • SIS Vendor Presentations Continue

Brock continues its review of student information systems on March 22, 2018 when it welcomes Ellucian and Banner to campus for a product demonstration its solutions.

Brock students, staff and faculty are invited to provide their input regarding the current challenges and future opportunities related to the current student information system (SIS) as well as to share their feedback regarding the services provided by several student information system providers.

The current SIS consists of more than a dozen individual applications and databases that includes over 1,000 different functional pages. Maintaining the system beyond 2020 would require significant capital and human resources to provide any substantial improvements in functionality, stability or security. The preservation of this system could also inhibit the University’s responsiveness to meet future needs and goals.

The success of the project is dependent on ongoing stakeholder engagement. To enhance stakeholders’ knowledge and understanding of the new student information system options, the campus community is invited to vendor demonstrations.  Interested participants may register for a demonstration of the Ellucian and Banner student information system by using the Brock University Focus on Learning Site

Any further questions on the new SIS may be sent to Rico Natale, Student Information Services — User Experience Lead, at rnatale@brocku.ca

  • SIS Vendor Presentations Begin

A new student information system is on the horizon.

Brock students, staff and faculty are invited to provide their input regarding the current challenges and future opportunities related to the current student information system (SIS) as well as to share their feedback regarding the services provided by several student information system providers.

The current SIS is a constellation of more than a dozen individual applications and databases that includes over 1,000 different functional pages. Maintaining the system beyond 2020 would require significant capital and human resources to provide any substantial improvements in functionality, stability or security. The preservation of this system could also inhibit the University’s responsiveness to meet future needs and goals.

As a result, the initiation of the SIS Modernization Project has begun. The project was created to provide a unified, dynamic and student-centric platform that transforms how students, staff, and faculty use the information that supports the essential services and functions that facilitate student success in an increasingly complex and competitive environment.

The success of the project is dependent on ongoing stakeholder engagement. To enhance stakeholders’ knowledge and understanding of the new student information system options, the campus community is invited to several vendor demonstrations, with first taking place on Feb. 21. Interested participants may register for a demonstration of the Workday Student information system by using the Brock University Focus on Learning Site.

Subsequent presentation information will be posted at a later date.

Any further questions on the new SIS may be sent to Rico Natale, Student Information Services — User Experience Lead, at rnatale@brocku.ca
