Adult workshops and studio programs are designed for beginner through intermediate artists ages 18+ and are delivered in a creative & supportive environment by passionate instructors.

Exploring a variety of media, Rodman Hall offers programs in painting (acrylics & watercolours) drawing, printmaking and mixed media techniques. Specialized workshops are offered seasonally and feature art & fine craft techniques like textile arts and bookbinding. The limited class size for all Adult Programs allows for personalized one-on-one instruction. Lessons change each time a class is offered, so returning participants are always welcomed. Class fees include materials unless otherwise specified.

Working with acrylic paints and mediums. This is a chance to explore different techniques in paint application and mark-making. This course will be held at the Marilyn I Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts, downtown St. Catharines. Learn to paint from source images or find inspiration from the culturally rich downtown area. Registration in this course includes a take home set of brushes, acrylic paints and a palette.

All required materials will be provided by Rodman Hall Art Centre, however, you are always welcome to bring your own materials if you prefer.

Working in-depth with watercolour paints and drawing materials. This course will show you how to take basic skills & techniques and put them into practice. Expand on the basics as you learn to create visual interest, explore composition and add dimension. Drawing inspiration from life and photo sources, you will have the opportunity to further develop your technical skills in watercolour and drawing practices. Registration in this course includes a take home set of brushes, a personal sketchbook and a set of drawing pencils. This course is offered at the Marilyn I Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts.

CANDACE COUSE

Candace has been working as a practicing artist at the national and international level for the past twelve years. Her practice focuses on painting,  textile and video work, which has been included in numerous gallery shows across Canada, the USA, UK, Switzerland, Italy and India. She has been teaching, leading workshops and conducting research for the past 7 years and teaches at Brock University in the Visual Arts Department. Candace earned her MFA from The University of Calgary. She is currently working towards her PHD at Brock in the field of Interdisciplinary Humanities.

ROBIN NISBET

Instructing:

Robin is an Artist and Educator who works across a diverse range of mediums including  painting, illustration, photography, sculpture and digital. The layers of acrylic which bring life to her  paintings, mirror the layers of life experience which are reflected in her work. Robin holds a degree in Studio Arts from Brock University. Her paintings have been exhibited in Trinidad and Ontario and she has received numerous awards for her work in Graphic Design.

JANA SIMMS-BERGSMA  

Instructing:

Jana is a local artist who specializes in scenic painting. Besides teaching for Rodman Hall she also paints scenery for the Shaw Festival and other local theatre companies. She received her BA in studio art from McMaster University and is currently focusing on a series of large paintings based on St. Catharines. In her  personal work she enjoys integrating forms of drawing and printmaking.
