Residence Summer Communications Assistant

Hourly Rate: $14.00
Weekly Hours: 20

Job Description & Duties:

The Residence Communications Assistant will be responsible for assisting in telling the ongoing story of life in residence through pictures, videos, tweets and posts. The focus of the position will be to realize the profile and awareness of residence people, events and activities so that all students have a chance to become more connected, engaged and involved in residence life at Brock.

Duties Include:

  • Help create and maintain a digital residence community
  • Monitor twitter for Brock residence and proactively engage with students in the digital world
  • Assist in maintaining Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts managed by the Department of Residences
  • Foster engagement across all social media channels
  • Be responsible for Live chat functionality on Department of Residences website
  • Update the Residence Handbook for publication
  • Manage the HHCB ExperienceBU and Facebook pages over the summer
  • Assist with promotion of residence through SMART Start, tours and other such events
  • Assist with phone calls and emails as needed
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Currently enrolled Brock student; residence experience preferred
  • computer proficient – experience with web design and graphics
  • Possess strong organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Be able to work independently, but thrive in a team environment
  • Be creative and have the ability to troubleshoot issues in a fast-paced setting
  • Be a self-starter that is full of creative ideas and is not afraid to take initiative
  • Must understand the Brock experience and be engaged in life on campus
  • Create and foster a sense of enthusiasm and pride in student and campus life
  • Must have extensive knowledge of social media platforms
  • Must be an active Twitter and Facebook user
  • Experience in using Tumblr and Instagram are a plus
  • Have photography experience
  • knowledge of Brock University residences and their facilities is an asset
