Seeking feedback on draft Tri-Agency Research Data Management policy

Brock University researchers are invited to provide feedback on a draft Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy from Canada’s research funding agencies (CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC). The draft policy will affect how funded researchers and their institutions manage, store and preserve data.

Brock Libraries, Office of the VP Research, the Office of Research Services, Research Ethics Office and ITS are preparing a collective response to the Agencies regarding the draft policy.

For more information about this collaboration, see the Brock News article.

We encourage researchers to provide feedback by:

  • Emailing comments directly to SSHRC, NSERC, OR CIHR by September 30.

The Agencies are particularly interested in comments regarding:

  • the impact of the suggested requirements (in section 3) for researchers, research communities and research institutions;
  • the ability of institutions and researchers to comply with those requirements;
  • the extent to which researchers and disciplinary communities are adopting data management best practices, including the use of data management plans;
  • the extent to which institutions are developing data management strategies, and what they have learned in doing so; and
  • the ideal timeline for implementing the policy.

The Agencies also invite comments on the draft policy’s Frequently Asked Questions, particularly regarding:

  • the clarity and accuracy of the definitions in section 1;
  • the usefulness of the guidance in section 3; and
  • whether any additional questions and resources should be included.
