The 15th annual Tribute to Teaching on Wednesday December 4th, was an opportunity for the Brock community to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of this year’s Faculty Teaching Award recipients.
As the recipient of the 2019 Distinguished Teaching Award, Kirsty Spence, Associate Dean, Teaching and Undergraduate Studies in Health Sciences and Associate Professor in the Department of Sport Management, shared in her plenary address, the mindfulness concept of Beginner’s Mind and the practice of deep learning.
This year’s Celebration of Teaching Excellence also featured the presentation of three faculty teaching awards to recognize their outstanding teaching contributions:
Assistant Professor Kyle Rich, Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies — Clarke Thomson Award for Excellence in Sessional Teaching
Assistant Professor Alex Christie, Digital Prototyping, Centre for Digital Humanities — Excellence in Teaching for Early Career Faculty Award
Professor Tim Murphy, Psychology — Don Ursino Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Large Classes
The event also was an opportunity to recognize the recipients of Chancellor’s Chairs for Teaching Excellence. The program, established by CPI in 2005, supports the scholarship of teaching and provides recipients with $5,000 a year for three years to pursue innovative projects. Twenty nine Chancellor’s Chairs from 2005 – present were recognized.
