What is this study about?
- This study is investigating why we remember certain things better than others and the specific neural underpinnings of memory with electroencephalography (EEG) technology. The research also helps us better understand what properties of certain objects and their qualities make them more memorable.
Who can participate?
- Must be age 18-30, fluent in English, have sufficient motor function for use of a keyboard/mouse, be right-handed, normal or corrected-to-normal vision, normal colour vision, have no history of memory impairment (e.g. dementia, mild cognitive decline), have no history of head injuries, have no hair extensions or braids.
What is involved in participating?
- This study is a single two-hour session. In this experiment you will be asked to remember several word and image pairs. This will be broken down into a study and a test phase. While performing this task, we will also record electroencephalography (EEG). This involves fitting an EEG cap to your head and placing a conductive gel under each electrode that measures electrical activity in your brain. The gel is water soluble and can easily be rinsed off after the study is completed. You will also be asked to complete a demographics questionnaire.
What do individuals get for participating?
- You will be compensated for your time with CAD$30
