Request a Book

Books in the Library

Place a request on print materials with an “in library” status to have books retrieved from the shelves for you.

When you find a book in SuperSearch, click on ‘Request This’ at the bottom of the book record. Fill in your Brock username and password and place your request.

Your book should be available for you the next day. Staff retrieve requested books from the shelves each morning.

You will receive an email when your requested book is ready to be picked up.

You can also check your Library Account to see the status of your requests.

You are allowed ten requested items at one time.

This service is available for all library material that has a four week loan period.

The following collections are not part of the book retrieval service:

  • Course Reserve materials
  • IRC and Hamilton Campus materials
  • Archives & Special Collections
  • Map, Data & GIS Library
  • McMaster Medical Collection materials
  • CPI (Center for Pedagogical Innovation)
  • OPIRG
  • Rodman Hall

Books Currently on Loan to Other Users

Books that are currently signed out can also be requested. They will be recalled from the current borrower and made available to be picked up from the Ask Us Desk when returned.

When you find a book in SuperSearch, click on ‘Request This’ at the bottom of the book record. Fill in your Brock username and password and place your request.

Recall dates vary. Generally the previous borrower will have one week to return the item / be expected to return it on the original due date, whichever comes first. When the item is returned, we will place it on the “Hold” shelf at the Ask Us Desk in your name. We’ll keep it for you for three days.

You will receive an email when your requested book is ready to be picked up.

Please allow 2-3 business days for delivery.

Instructions for returning library materials are included with each shipment. There is no cost to you for the return of library materials.

Please check your Brock email for courtesy reminders, overdue notices, and recalls. See Email and Calendaring Services for help with your email account or to forward your Brock email address to another address.
