Become a tutor or intern

The Brock Learning Lab is a place where tutors, literacy and math mentors, interns and volunteers can make a difference in the education of learners while enhancing their own professional knowledge and skills.

Learn more about opportunities to work or volunteer with the Brock Learning Lab below. While most of our tutors are Brock students, we do accept applications from those who aren’t current Brock students.

Literacy and Math Mentor employment opportunities

The Brock Learning Lab has partnered with local school boards to provide one-on-one intervention for students with persistent literacy and/or math challenges in Kindergarten through grade 12 through the Literacy and Math Mentors Program.

Tutoring sessions will take place in person at schools during the school day from September/October to May/June. Literacy and Math Mentors will plan one-on-one and/or small-group sessions (with supplied resources) and build teaching skills and network contacts. Program training will be provided. Literacy and Math Mentors must work a minimum of 6.25 hours per week. Literacy Mentor positions are available in local elementary schools. Math Mentor positions are available in elementary and secondary schools. Both positions (Literacy and Math Mentors) are paid at $20 per hour.

Applications are currently open. Subscribe to our email updates below if you would like to receive notifications about Literacy and Math Mentor Opportunities. Once the application forms open, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until available positions have been filled. Interested applicants are advised to apply as soon as possible.

Brock Learning Lab tutors are current undergraduate or graduate students and alumni at Brock University. All tutors are trained through the Brock Learning Lab in literacy and numeracy assessments and intervention strategies in order to develop an individualized program for their clients. Tutors are matched with learners to create a compatible dyad based on learner profiles. Tutoring sessions are supervised by Brock Learning Lab staff who are Ontario Certified Teachers and experts in supplemental education.
