Are you interested in learning about different cultures, while helping a fellow Brock student practice their conversation skills in a new language? Perhaps you’re interested in learning a new language?
Participants in the Conversation Partner Program can be matched in one of three ways:
- Current Brock University students with English as their first language who would like to share their knowledge in return for learning about new cultures.
- Current Brock University students (including ESL) who wish to practice their English conversation skills.
- Current Brock University students who are interested in ‘exchanging’ languages with a fellow Brock student
(For ex. an English-speaking student who is interested in learning Japanese).
Partners meet for a minimum of one hour per week for face-to-face conversation. There is no set schedule that you need to follow, as you and your partner will decide when and where you’d like to meet. The goal is for students to improve their skills from other students who have a strong command of the language.
This is an amazing opportunity to gain a better understanding of a culture (or a language) other than your own, make new friends on campus and to develop interpersonal skills that will help you in the future.
This program will run throughout the year (September to April). All hours volunteered for this program can be tracked on ExperienceBU, so the time can be recorded towards your ExperiencePlus certificate.
*Please note that not every participant is guaranteed a partner. The number of pairings will depend on the number of students registered.
