    2016 is a Year of Significant Anniversaries from the Middle Ages and Renaissance:

    • Aethelred II and Cnut: 1000 years since the Danish conquest of England, 1016
    • 800 years since the death of King John (of Magna Carta fame), 1216
    • 400 years since the deaths of William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes, 1616
