The following resources provide urgent and non-urgent physical and mental medical care for sexual assault survivors.

It is important to seek physical medical attention after experiencing an assault, even if there are no visible injuries, or if you do not want to report to the police. Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Treatment Programs DO NOT report assaults to the police.

Additionally, it is important to take care of your mental health after experiencing a sexual violence incident. Please take a look at the available supports below, and connect with the one that is the right fit for you.

Emergency Services

Niagara’s Regional Police Service can be called in case of emergency, or when you feel the safety of people are at risk. They can also be called in non-emergency situations for help and to report a crime.

Brock University Physical and Mental Health Services

Brock University’s Walk-in clinic for physical, mental, and sexual health services. They also can receive disclosures and reports related to sexual violence. Visit their website for more contact information.

Public Physical Health Resources

Regional unit at the St. Catharines General Hospital for all sexual assault and domestic violence services. They can gather sexual assault evidence kit, give you medical attention, perform STI and pregnancy testing and prevention, and provide free counselling. This service DOES NOT report cases to the police.

Response team located at Hamilton General Hospital and McMaster Children’s Hospital for all sexual ass­­­­­ault and domestic violence services. They can gather a sexual assault evidence kit, give you medical attention, perform STI and pregnancy testing and prevention, and provide free counselling. A resource that connects people to available Sexual Health Centres around the Niagara region. Sexual Health Centres in Niagara may provide STI testing and treatment, birth control, pregnancy testing, morning after pill, unplanned pregnancy options and counselling, free condoms and a men’s clinic. All services are free and confidential. You do not need a health card to access these services.

A resource that connects people to available Sexual Health Centres around the Hamilton Region. Sexual Health Clinics in the Hamilton Region offer information on safer sex practices, low-cost birth control (based on eligibility), low-cost Emergency Contraceptive Pill, free pregnancy testing, free STI testing and treatment, free condoms free hepatitis A and B vaccines for persons at risk, and free needle exchange and harm reduction supplies.

A service that connects victims and survivors if Sexual Violence with Sexual Assault Centres in any region across Ontario. This resource also offers free information and resources about Sexual Violence and Consent.

Quest is a primary health care clinic that provides services to individuals experiencing social, economic and cultural barriers. They place emphasis on caring for: individuals without a healthcare provider who are also experiencing mental health, addictions or concurrent disorders, street-involved populations (homeless, under-housed, sex trade workers), isolated seniors, sexually and gender diverse populations (LGBTQ+), at-risk children, youth and families, individuals who frequent the Emergency Department for care/opioid-dependent (USAT), Migrant Agricultural Workers (MAWP).

Community Shelters

Niagara Region Shelters

Gillian’s Place in St. Catharines offers support for women and children who have experienced abuse. They run a shelter for women with and without children, they provide free individual and group counselling, and a 24/7 support and information line.

Women’s Place of South Niagara offers support and services for women and children around the entire Niagara Region. This resource provides free shelters, counselling, education and advocacy. They also have 24/7 confidential call and text support lines.

YWCA Niagara also offers a 365 day/year, 24/7 emergency men’s shelter for men and children. If you need support:

Abbey House provides safe transitional living for Indigenous women and children in Niagara. They also provide many resources for Indigenous women and children, such as cultural teachings, cultural sensitivity, talking circles, crisis intervention, peer counseling, and much more.

Hamilton Shelters

A confidential, non-judgemental, and informed peer support for Ontario LGBTTQQ2SI youth. 

A hotline that is a peer support service run by trans people, for trans and questioning callers. For individuals in crisis, or just for someone to talk to about anything.
