Mindful Transitions program

Located at the main Brock University campus in beautiful St. Catharines, Ontario, Mindful Transitions is a workshop-based introduction to university life designed specifically for students with disabilities.

2-day option:

Sunday, August 18 (4:30 PM EST) to
Tuesday, August 20, 2019 (5:00 PM EST)

1-day option:

Thursday August 22 (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST)

Registration

Participants must submit appropriate documentation with their registration form
(see Documentation Guidelines for more information).

2-day program:

Online registration closes July 27th, 2019 and is limited to 25 participants.
There is a $50 fee to attend the 2-day program.

Registration for 2-day option is closed.

1-day program:

Online registration closes August 14th, 2019 and is limited to 50 participants.
There is no fee to attend the 1-day program.

Registration for 1-day option is closed.

Program details

Mindful Transitions is designed to address the specific needs of students with a diagnosed disability who are entering their first year at Brock. The transition from high school to university can be challenging for students as they develop independence and encounter new opportunities, expectations, and situations. Our program guides students through their first steps in this transition by providing key information on the services and skills that are most relevant to becoming a successful student at the post-secondary level.

2-day program includes:

  • Strategies for Academic Success;
  • Stress and anxiety management;
  • Self-advocacy;
  • Personalized campus tours;
  • Understanding your disability and how it impacts university life;
  • Navigating Seminar Requirements 101;
  • Overview of Brock’s online student systems;
  • Introduction to useful Assistive Technologies;
  • Share peer to peer advice, tips, and experiences with current students from a variety of programs;
  • Meet a Professor and classroom expectations;
  • Meet an Academic Advisor.

1-day program includes:

  • Strategies for academic success;
  • Stress and anxiety management;
  • Introduction to Brock’s Learning Management Systems;
  • Personalized campus tours;
  • Understanding your disability and how it impacts university life;
  • Overview of Brock’s online student systems;
  • Share peer to peer advice, tips, and experiences with current students from a variety of programs.
