2024 Graduate Ambassador

The Graduate Ambassador will provide incoming graduate students with a seamless, personalized transition to graduate school. They will help incoming students finalize their offer of admission and understand the many things that need to be done before students join us on campus.

The Graduate Ambassador is assigned groups of incoming graduate students to support as they transition into graduate studies at Brock. They will expand students’ knowledge of on-campus resources and services; build students’ confidence and comfort; foster opportunities for relationship building; provide personal and social support; and be positive role models.

The Graduate Ambassador will provide personalized onboarding services for new students over the summer months and into the transition of the fall term.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must be currently registered in a graduate program at Brock with at least one semester of their program completed
  • Ability to work 10 hours per week from May through December

The successful candidate will have: 

  • At least one semester of their Brock graduate program completed
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or as a team
  • Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Customer service orientated
  • Knowledge of Brock University’s programs and functional areas
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office 365, Databases, Web Pages, etc.)
  • Basic video production skills

Job responsibilities: 

Mentorship

  • Create a sense of community among students with similar programs, research interests and career goals by facilitating engagement and connection-building between incoming students.
  • To support graduate students leading up to and in the first six weeks of their first term.
  • Provide personalized support to students based on their unique needs and interests.
  • Support and guide students toward opportunities to enhance their transition experience.
  • Be available to students for their first six weeks, including hosting virtual office hours, opportunities for group engagement and being accessible and responsive.
  •  Mentor graduate students to encourage their success in their transition into the first year

Build community

  • Liaise with campus departments (resources) to ensure student’s needs are met
  • Organize social events to encourage students to connect and introduce students to Brock campus and Niagara Region.
  • Connect students with support services and resources on campus and in the Niagara community to make their transition to university life easier.
  • Foster a culture of inclusivity, accessibility, reconciliation, and decolonization

Promote

  • Assist in promoting Brock Graduate programs to new applicants
  • Conduct classroom presentations to endorse events and programs
  • Capture graduate studies through photos, social media and testimonials
  • Develop and execute various marketing events to publicize Graduate events and programs
  • Think critically of new ways to expand and improve the program
