The Faculty of Graduate Studies presents a series of Professional Development Workshops to help prepare graduate students for workplace entry and workplace success.

The Centre for Pedagogical Innovation (CPI)
The Centre for Pedagogical Innovation (CPI) offers 3 levels of graduate student programming and support in teaching. In addition to their annual TA Orientation; workshops on a variety of issues are offered on Saturdays from Sept to April. Basic and advanced certificates in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education are awarded for participation in the workshop program. Three-day Instructional Skills Workshops focusing on presentation and feedback skills are available to graduate students 3 times a year. The third level of professional development, the GTA Practicum, allows graduate students to document their developing skills in teaching through classroom observations and a teaching dossier.
A-Z Learning Services
Learning Skills Services will design and tailor workshops for small and large groups to address specific needs of graduate students. This support is available in a variety of formats, including:
- Group workshops led by professional Learning Skills Instructors
- One-on-one consultations with a professional Learning Skills Instructor
- Essay Zone, Online Academic Writing Workshop

Orion Network
The Ontario Research and Innovation Optical Network (ORION) is an advanced technology, “ultra-fast” fibre optic network, owned and operated by a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting and advancing research, learning and innovation. ORION connects all of Ontario’s universities, most colleges, several teaching hospitals, other public research facilities and a growing number of school boards to one another and to the global grid of research and education (R&E) networks.
As Ontario’s advanced R&E network, ORION is a critical tool that supports and facilitates research, education, collaboration and innovation benefitting Ontario’s researchers, educators and learners. Stretching 5,800 kilometres, it is one of the largest R&E networks in the world.
