Please contact our office if you have any specific questions. We would be happy to discuss our program, your background and help you put together a strong application.

The MBA (ISP) program

Program overview

Our MBA (ISP) started in 2003.

The Goodman MBA (ISP) is a 21 month MBA program, with a co-op option, that caters to the unique needs of international students. The MBA (ISP) curriculum is designed to meet the applied needs of Canadian and international businesses while at the same time instilling graduates with strong theoretical knowledge, excellent communication abilities and the skills needed to be a successful manager. Throughout the program, Business English skills are emphasized and opportunities to improve language skills are provided. This pathway is designed to cover all foundational areas of business, ensuring that students can work in and understand all aspects and areas of their organization.

No, it is not possible to complete the MBA (ISP) program part time.

All MBA (ISP) students are required to complete all courses.

Our full time MBA (ISP) program takes 21 months to complete (two academic years). Students begin in August with the required Business English and Skills Transition (BEST) Program. You then study for four semesters, taking 5 courses each term (20 courses total). At the end of their program, students complete an optional co-op term.

Specializations

In the second year of the program, students may choose to specialize or pursue a general management MBA. We offer specializations in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Operations Management and Business Analytics and Human Resource Management. We also offer a CPA Accredited specialization which takes one additional term to complete.

Students may also study for a general MBA which enables them to take courses from all of the different specializations to create a custom program.

Our faculty of have expertise in a wide range of business areas. If none of our specializations interest you, you can also look into pursuing a general MBA. The general MBA enables you to take courses that fit your future career plans from within all the different specializations.

Co-op and international exchanges

Yes. All MBA (ISP) students who maintain an average of 75% are eligible for our co-op program. Students enrolled in the co-op program attend workshops, seminars and speaker series that are designed to help them discover the opportunities and industries that await them during their co-op work placement and post-MBA.

A portion of the fee is assessed at the time of registration in the Co-op Option (start of Pre-Employment Training Sessions), remainder of the fee is assessed upon confirmation on employment.

Most co-op placements are four months long.

There are no separate application requirements for the co-op program.

Although studying abroad is not mandatory, many MBA (ISP) students find the time they spend abroad to be extremely beneficial, both academically and professionally. We have international exchange partners located around the world, including Sao Paulo University, Brazil; Shanghai University, China; Copenhagen Business School, Denmark; Groupe-ESC Rouen, France; European Business School, Germany; Instituto Technologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM), Mexico; and the University of Surrey, UK. Most MBA (ISP) students complete their exchange in their second year.

MBA versus MBA (ISP)

Goodman offers two programs that lead towards the MBA (Master of Business Administration) degree. We offer a traditional two year MBA as well as the MBA International Student Pathway (MBA (ISP)). Both pathways focus on the same curriculum and include the same degree requirements. The MBA (ISP) is ideal for international applicants who are intellectually and professorially ready to pursue an MBA in Canada but who would like a program that emphasizes communication and language skills. MBA and MBA (ISP) students take their courses separately, ensuring that international students are not at a disadvantage in the classroom. The MBA (ISP) does not focus on international business although the global business environment is discussed in all courses.

Although you are an international student, we recommend that you apply to our traditional MBA pathway. The MBA (ISP) offers additional support to international students by focusing on Business English skills and helping them transition to the Canadian business world. As you already have an undergraduate degree from a North American university and are familiar with Canadian culture, the MBA would be the most appropriate pathway for you.

We recommend that you apply to our MBA (ISP). This program will not only provide you with a strong Canadian Business Education but will also provide you with additional preparation through the one month Business English and Skills Transition (BEST) Program and through supportive faculty attuned to your cultural and language needs.

You may also be interested in our Professional Masters Preparation Certificate Program (PMPCP). This certificate program focuses on developing English language communication skills so that students can succeed in graduate school in North America.

Fees and financial aid

The MBA (ISP) fee includes the four terms of the MBA courses. Extra fees are applicable for the Business English and Skills Transition (BEST) Program and ancillary fees. Visit our Fees and financial aid page for details.

Living expenses in Canada are estimated at approximately $10,000 CDN for one year, which includes food, rent, health insurance and transportation. Textbook costs are the responsibility of the student.

Unfortunately, we do not offer any financial aid of any kind to international students.

Application requirements

Education and work experience

Yes! We accept students from many different backgrounds, not just business. Students who have never studied business before will not be at a disadvantage in the program. You will undertake study in all different areas of business, such as accounting, marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, international business and human resource management. The small class sizes and the community feeling of the program will ensure personal attention and lots of opportunity to participate, contributing to your sense of understanding of the topic.

The Faculty of Graduate Studies of Brock University requires that applicants have a four year honours degree or equivalent. If you are unsure of your degree eligibility, please contact us for a pre-assessment.

We do not have any minimum work experience requirements. There are many motivations for pursing an MBA degree and we recognize that our MBA (ISP) candidates come to our program at different stages of their career. Many candidates are using the MBA (ISP) program to jump start their career while other candidates come to us with a desire to improve their theoretical knowledge and move upward into management. We welcome applicants with or without work experience. Applicants without work experience will not be at a disadvantage during the admissions process.

If you do not have any work experience, we highly recommend that you pursue the co-op option.

The MBA (ISP) program is diverse and includes MBA candidates with over 25 years of experience to students right out of undergrad. This creates an extremely enriching learning environment where, because no one has the same academic background nor the same amount of experience, everyone is able to learn something new that challenges their experience and their currently held viewpoints. No matter what your background, you will be challenged by the Goodman MBA (ISP).

There are many reasons that the Goodman MBA (ISP) might be the right MBA program for you. As an AACSB accredited business program, the MBA (ISP) will give you the credentials and the knowledge to move higher in your organization. If you do not have a business background, it will give you legitimacy and technique by teaching you the foundations of good business. If you have been out of school for a while, the MBA (ISP) will offer you a chance to upgrade your theoretical knowledge and practice your business English skills.

Additionally, if you want to change from one field to another (marketing to finance, for example), the MBA (ISP) will give you the knowledge and graduate degree needed to make that change.

Application deadlines and process

Contact information

Our office does not use our personal emails to keep in contact with our students. Instead we use the Graduate Portal to answer all of your questions. Not only does this system keep a record of all of our communications with you, but it also is accessible by all members of our staff, ensuring that your question will be answered by the staff member who has the most knowledge and experience about that subject.

As the staff members of our program travel frequently, we often are unable to access our email.  By using you the Portal, you also ensure that your question does not go unanswered because one of us is out of town. Because all staff members have access to the Portal, you are guaranteed an answer from a staff member within a reasonable amount of time.
