The Bridges

There are a few different types of bridges along the Welland canal. These bridges come in two main shapes.

The first is a vertical lift bridge, which is lifted straight up by counterweights. (activity)

The second is the bascule bridge, which lifts up by one side. (Activity)

These bridges are manned by special people working for the Seaway Authority insuring that boats do not crash into the bridges. These bridges are also important to allow transport by vehicles to the other side.

Congratulations, you have completed the Welland Canal math trail. We invite you to visit the Niagara Region. The Welland Canal is only a small portion of the attractions awaiting you.
