Activity #5
The first crowd to Dawson City took up all claims
so latecomers had to work 6 days a week for very little money. During
winter you work deep within the mines, digging the mines deeper. Usually
you work 10-hour days for only two dollars a day.
In the summer, when the rivers thaw, you work panning
for tiny gold nuggets. You usually work 15 hours a day in the summer
for the same two dollars. However, the claim-owners are more generous
in the summer and at the end of each week, everyone gets an extra four
dollars to keep their spirits up.
If you wanted to get a second job and only work at
the mines for half the year, which season pays more per hour?
