Sara loves to walk. Help her find out how long it would take her to walk around Metrotown Shopping Centre:

1)     Use Pythagorean Theorem and the above information to find F.

 

F² = (2 - 0.2 - 0.8)² + (2 - 0.6 - 0.6)² 

F² = 1² + (0.8) ²

   F² = 1 + 0.64

F² = 1.64

F = square_root (1.64)

F = 1.28 km

 

 

2)     Find the perimeter of Metrotown Shopping Centre.

 

A + B + C + D + E + F + G

= 2 + 2 + 0.6 + 0.2 + 0.6 + 1.28 + 0.8

= 7.48 km

 

 

3)     If each of Sara’s steps is 0.8m, how many steps would Sara have to take if she wants to walk around the whole Metrotown Shopping Centre (walk around the perimeter of Metrotown)?

 

7.58 km = 7.58 * 1000 m = 7580 m

7580 m / 0.8 m = 9475 steps

 

 

4)     Find the area of Metrotown Shopping Centre.

 

2 * 0.6 + 1.8 * 0.6 + 0.8 * 0.8 + 1 * 0.8 / 2

= 1.2 + 1.08 + 0.64 + 0.4

= 3.32 km²
