Eligibility & Application

Interested applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Completed post-secondary education (minimum college diploma or university undergraduate degree).  Note: Applicants are responsible to confirm equivalency of study at non-Canadian institutions.
  • Legally eligible to work in Ontario
  • Meet Level 1 Broker (RIBO) and General Agent (OTL) licensing requirements*

*Licensing requirements are determined and regulated by the respective insurance industry regulating bodies (Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario and Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario).  Participation in Talent Bridge does not guarantee either type of insurance license.  You must meet all outlined licensing requirements and apply to the respective regulatory body following the successful completion of either respective exam to become a Sales Agent or Broker.

Before you begin your application, please ensure you have all the required application documents ready for upload.

  • Start application (insert link) on the CareerZone platform
  • Complete your profile by filling in all the required fields
  • Complete the Statement of Interest questions (Note: questions are limited to 250 words each)
  • Upload a copy of your current resume, transcript and up to three (3) professional letters of reference
  • Submit application

Following the application deadline (11:59 p.m. on November 26, 2021), all applications will be reviewed and evaluated.  Acceptance letters will be issued the week of December 13th, 2022.  Payment in full will be required two (2) weeks prior to the start of the program (January 3, 2022).

Applications are reviewed by the Talent Bridge Manager and career development team committee, and are evaluated on:

  • Statement of Interest responses
  • Professionalism of application
  • Letter(s) of reference
  • Autobiographical Sketch
  • Transcript

Final acceptance into the January 2022 cohort will be issued the week of December 13, 2021 with confirmation of participation and 1st payment installment due by December 24, 2021.

No, you do not need to be a Brock graduate in order to apply to Talent Bridge.  As long as you have completed a post-secondary education (minimum college diploma or university undergraduate degree) from an accredited institution you may apply.  Proof of education in the form of a transcript is required.

Program Outcomes

Talent Bridge has been designed to provide the required licensing, industry knowledge and professional skills to position you competitively for entry level roles within the insurance industry.  Talent Bridge provides career-readiness preparation, industry-specific and skills training, and access to key partners within the industry. Every participant has the opportunity benefit from the program in their own unique way based on their specific learning goals and career interests. The Talent Bridge team is here to support participants in reaching those individual goals throughout the duration of the program.

No, job offers are not guaranteed but participation in the exclusive recruiting process with our signed industry partners is a guarantee for Talent Bridge participants who complete all program requirements.    This includes the opportunity to view and apply for open roles with our program partner organizations, and engage in a formal interview process if selected by one (or many) of our industry partners.  Our program partners will extend offers of employment to only those who are a good fit for their organization and the role(s) offered.

Yes. Every program participant who successfully completes the Talent Bridge program will receive a certificate issued by Brock University.  Please note, Talent Bridge is a non-credit program for new and recent graduates and participants are not considered to be Brock University students.

RIBO licenses are issued and regulated by Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) and OTL licenses are issued and regulated by Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA). Once you have successfully passed either exam following the completion of Talent Bridge and meet the specific license requirements, you can apply to become a registered Insurance Broker or Insurance Agent.

Program Structure

Talent Bridge consists of both live online workshops, networking opportunities and self-directed study via LinkedIn Learning.  You will be expected to dedicate approximately 10-15 hours to the program each week.  Some modules will require additional online workshop & study time including Module 5: RIBO/OTL Exam Preparation.

Talent Bridge is currently available in English only.

Talent Bridge will be facilitated by Co-op, Career & Experiential Education’s talent development team and various third-party professional facilitators who are experts in their respective fields over the course of six (6) modules.  Each module will include both live online workshops and self-directed (asynchronous) courses followed by weekly wrap-up sessions with the opportunity for reflection.  All mandatory sessions and LinkedIn Learning courses must be completed and confirmed before accessing materials for the next module.

Talent Bridge consists of six (6) modules over the course of eleven (11) weeks.  Following the completion of the program curriculum, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a 2-week exclusive recruitment period for open roles within Talent Bridge employer partner organizations.

Based on your own unique situation, you may be able to complete this program while working part-time, however it is a requirement that you attend all live online workshops which will take place during regular business hours.  To get the most out of this program, it is recommended that you focus your time and effort on the Talent Bridge curriculum, networking opportunities, reflection, and licensing preparation.

Yes.  To gain access to the exclusive 2-week recruitment period at the end of the program, you are required to attend all live, online sessions.  Should unforeseen circumstances arise, you are encouraged to connect with Jillian Nero, Manager Talent Bridge (jnero@brocku.ca) to discuss your situation.

Fees & Key Dates

Deadlines for the January 2022 cohort:

  • Applications close: 11:59 p.m. on November 26, 2021
  • Application review: November 29 – December 10, 2021
  • Acceptance emails issued: week of December 13, 2021
  • Program fee 1st installment: by December 24, 2021
  • Program fee 2nd/final installment: January 3, 2022

The program fee is $5200 + HST and includes 11-weeks of programming, access to LinkedIn Learning for the duration of the program, RIBO/OTL preparation, materials, and exam fees.

If you are hired on by one of our program partners during the 2-week exclusive recruitment period, the program partner (i.e. your new employer) will reimburse 80% of the program fee to you following successful completion the program partner’s employment probationary period.

Talent Bridge consists of six (6) curated modules that provide a combination of career development education and technical and professional skills training, which prepare participants for careers within the insurance industry.  Individual coaching and networking opportunities are available throughout the program, which will allow you to refine your skills and begin to build your professional network.

Participants write the Level-1 RIBO or OTL exam; licenses required to sell property & casualty insurance products.  RIBO/OTL preparation and exam facilitation is provided by the Insurance Institute of Ontario – Hamilton/Niagara chapter.

Assessment

All participants are expected to write the Level-1 Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) or Other Than Life (OTL) exam following the exam preparation module as part of the Talent Bridge program.  All other modules will conclude with a reflection assignment following the completion of the required LinkedIn Learning videos/courses; however, no grades will be assigned.
